The two series are actually blending together now. SMT4 2 had Persona like elements in it, and Persona 5 brought back a lot of SMT stuff. It seems like Atlus is blurring the gameplay distinctions between them to some degree.

As a fan of both series, I think SMTIV was better than Persona 5 when it comes to several design choices.

Persona 5 was great, really great, the best in the Persona series. But it still suffered from several glaring flaws that weighed it down. Puzzles in the game are a good example of this, there are some you literally can't screw up even trying.

The dungeons as a whole are great, but extremely linear even though the game tries to make it look otherwise. There's no sense of freedom in dungeons and its hard to feel like a thief when your infiltration is sp heavily scripted.

There aren't enough stealth elements in the game, it should play a bit more like MGS, Splinter Cell and the like, if that makes any sense. The thing is, the cover system is not just unwieldy, but also overly simplistic. Personally, when I have a shadow stare at me hugging a wall like that'd do anything irl and have it completely miss me completely breaks my immersion.

SMT IV (+Apocalypse), once you look at it is a much stronger game in these aspects.

I'm really looking forward for SMT on the Switch. Enjoy the 7 spin offs and 3 remakes before Persona 6 in 11 years!
