Just because BotW used a minimal approach to story didn't give it an excuse to make that story boring.

I think the main problem with TP wasnt exactly how easy villains are to beat, it's the fact that they give you hearts to replenish your health way too much. Hearts can be found aplenty at all times, making the game too easy.

The Oracle games are the best top down Zelda games. Seasons is probably the better game overall, even though I personally like Ages more.

As far as the 3d games go Majora's Mask was the most creative and interesting, but Ocarina of Time is the most well rounded.
I haven't gotten around to playing BotW yet though (waiting for the Switch to go down in price).

Twilight Princess had good art and great original temples (the mansion, city in the sky), but was held back by trying to copy OoT too much and having simplistic dungeon design for the most part. It's a real tragedy that Miyamoto stopped what became Link's Crossbow training from being a fully fledged sequel to TP.

Wind Waker was too linear and rushed. The Triforce quest is annoying and would have been better served by letting you explore more of sunken Hyrule for at least a few pieces. The world has a lot of character, but it's mostly empty.

Skyward Sword had fun controls (some people will disagree), but was restrictive to the point of not feeling like a Zelda game. The world was small, Demise ruins Ganondorf, the repeated demise fights are a slog, and Tentalus could have been one of the coolest fights in the series but they went with pixar.

Honestly, when I played Hero Mode in TPHD, I found that it just reinforces how player-biased the game is to begin with.

I did a 3-heart run, and there were a few points during my playthrough where I was low on hearts in a dungeon with no healing items. This situation should've made me feel on-edge and engaged. But it didn't, because I knew I could just kill myself and respawn at the start of the dungeon with full hearts and no penalty whenever I felt like it. Not to mention that dungeon suicide was almost always more time-efficient than leaving to get more potions/fairies.

There just isn't enough of a penalty for death in the base game, and Hero Mode can't change that no matter how hard the enemies hit.

it was too linear and too easy

you don't have any freedom, the sidequests all reward you with more help which is pointless because the game's already too easy and some enemies don't even attack you...

the game feels more like "The Legend of Zelda: The ride" you just go from set-piece to to set-piece and things happen around you., but your actions are a player don't really impact any of it.

Not him, but I'd like them to reintroduce what majoras mask did. Give the player a time limit for everything they do, make death result in loss of time to the point they may have to redo the entire dungeon again because they kept fucking up.

Metroidvanias, Bloodborne and the Souls games, Prey, Thief, and Deus Ex all do this to a certain degree.
Hell, the open-ended levels of Dishonored and Thief are ideal.
Strictly linear progression, but loads of freedom in each level hub.

Not him, but open world feels super aimless, unpolished and unfocused. There's no "push" to make you want to go anywhere or do anything. And god, do I hate traveling long stretches of uninteresting land just to from one barely interesting thing to another.

The graphic style absolutely kills the experience for me, i personally love the concept art, but lets be realistic, pretty much all the characters look poly starved, faced aside, the enemies are not even half as expressive as they where in wind waker for example, and the texture are just too noise and brown and sameish. The environments all look distinctly lifeless ,the bloom effect looks tacky and overdone
