I still check back here occasionally to see if I still hold a record or two. If the original Saturn version didn't have the Stunt Loop trick-cancel glitch, I don't know when I would've ever stopped. Christmas NiGHTS fixed that glitch so it's actually quite authoritative for scoring what Dreams it has to offer.

Then Journey of Dreams came out which graced us with a pretty damn good OST, but that was about it for NiGHTS. The Saturn game is tough for me to boot up though because it makes me emotional.

This series was always something I knew existed, but didn't really care to look into.

So I gave it a look. Turns out it's hardly a series. Only has 2 games, and one is a shitty Wii sequel.

I love NiGHTS a lot, but I'm worried if NiGHTS were to ever come back it'd be like a phone game or some shit. Since it's founded on quick arcadey styled gameplay and that's what phone games are.

Or they'd just make journey of dreams again and keep trying to interrupt gameplay with cutscenes and shitty not NiGHTS levels.

If Ecco would return, it most likely wouldn't retain the difficulty the series was known for.

Despite that they should keep in the general feel of the game like music, exploration, time traveling, and scenes where you watch your dolphin get eaten by some eldritch abomination in 4K.

Journey of Dreams is the main reason why I'm okay with Nights being a dead franchise. There's no way to bring that back without fucking something up.

I mean, I think going the "$20 download only PSN/XBL/Steam game" route is how you would do it justice, but I don't think Sega would go that route with something like this. They'd either try to force it into being a bigger title and Journey of Dreams it again or half-ass it as some infinite flier phone game like you said.

Yeah, that's one of the little scoring niceties of NiD: once you've beaten the game, you can choose which boss to face in the settings. Naturally, players just force Gillwing and x 2.0 it so as to never jeapordize a good run. Made it easy to 2.0, but in retrospect, I wish it wasn't an option: would be more interesting if somebody "being good at Splash Garden" meant they were also good at Puffy, or whichever Dream's respective boss.

Xmas NiGHTS scoring strats are the same as NiD strats for all laps sans Stunt Loops. Fucking Stunt Loops.

I feel ya. NiGHTS was simple to play but high levels required a lot of precision and practice. I remember late nights feelin' down on myself because I couldn't beat this canadian guy's score.

But there is a sublime pleasure in getting the score you know you can get: in NiGHTS, it has a specific song that plays -only- when you make a new, first-place, record in a Dream. When you run it hundreds of times and new records are few and far between, it's the ultimate release.

NiGHTS was great playing competitively (mostly), but nothing will ever be better than when my best friend and I sat down and just explored the Dreams while sipping hot tea my older sister brought home from the make-up store she worked at.

I'm kind of rambling at you, but it's been a while since I've had an excuse to access these memories lol.

It's about a time traveling Dolphin in space fighting to save the world.

There's actually a ton of interesting shit about it, it's development and such; it involved psychedelic drugs and rock n roll, to say the least.

I still have to finish this game. Got right up to the forest level and its boss but died like twice to it and haven't picked it up again since. Shame too, because it really seems like a phenomenal game with a fantastic ost.

I never played Nights into Dreams until I was an adult but I loved the character so much from that quest in Phantasy Star Online Episode II. It let you download a GBA version of Nights into Dreams which was fun though, and I remember it got me a Tails Chao in SA2B somehow?
