>>
>>381818028
Hmm, this is the first I've ever seen of this. Is there more?
>>
>>381818753
Because of the left over area. In the inner square you see that the left over area is equal to the same area of the red square. Then in the left over area of the outer square you see the area is equal to the inner square. Then you add app the area of the outer square is equal to +1 red quare + 1 red square + 2 red squares (the last 2 coming from the reasoning of the left over area and making a relation with the red square).

Sorry if what I said doesn't make much sense, english isn't my first language though that is the logic behind the graphical resolution of the problem.

Still a visual approximation. There is nothing that assures you that the corners have the same length as the middle.

You still need to make
>Diagonal of Smaller square = Side of middle square
>Diagonal of middle square = Side of large Square
>Side small*Sqrt(2)*Sqrt(2) = side large
>Side small *2 = Side large
>Area small *4 = Area large
>>

Rotating it doesn't make it seem obvious at all. THIS makes it seem obvious:

>>381816205

I've stared at the original comic for half an hour now and I still don't see how you can get 4 out of it just by looking at the different circles, triangles, and squares drawn on the rotated version.

>>
>>381820443
>Rotating it doesn't make it seem obvious at all. THIS makes it seem obvious:
It actually does. Though for me it was easier and faster just to do the math.
>>
>>381818753
Imagine taking the four triangles made by the inner square and middle square and flipping their points to the middle to cover the inner square. You know they'll cover it perfectly because their long sides are the same length as the inner square sides and the opposite angles are all 90 degrees. So you now know the middle square is 2x the inner square.

Following the same logic you know the outer square is 2x the middle square, and therefore 4x the inner square.
>>
>>381820443
It's easier to see with lines drawn.

>>381819305
Notice that the area of 1 quadrant of the large square is divided into two triangles. You can then infer that the middle square takes up half of the area of the large square. Repeat the same with the red square, and you see it takes up half of the area of the middle square.

Half of a half is a fourth.
>>
>>381819305
The dotted line sort of makes it obvious but the game would ask me to rotate something unrotateable (in my plane of existence) in the first place
>>
>>381820485

This is the first post in this thread that explained it in a way that made sense. It's retarded though and a visualization like this would've been way more effective:

No, I realized how it works after reading:

And it isn't at all obvious. Folding imaginary triangles to figure out a square is twice as large as another square isn't obvious.

>That visualisation doesn't work because you can't derive it from anything unless you can actually fucking copy-paste the damn square and put it wherever you want.

You can't fold triangles either without copying and pasting but that didn't stop the comic's originally intended triangle folding method from working.
