Would anyone else like to see the next GTA play similarly to this?

>speed limits
>challenging enemies/level design

I mean, idiots on /v/ say they don't want realism in games but all that leads to is repetitive bullshit like shootouts and carchases and nothing else. I think if they stuck to more realistic gameplay mechanics the game would actually become more fun. Why? Because it breaks up the action and creates tension when there is a shootout or carchase. It was fun having to actually obey speed limits and rules of the road in Mafia because it was more immersive, and it allowed you to drink in the atmosphere more. Plus, it made the map feel a lot bigger. What do you think, /v/?

Slav developers are the best developers for this kinda shit. Fuck the sequels though, they don't hold a candle to classic Mafia on PC.

mafia is older than most of this board so you wont find any answers

i love Mafia, it's one of my most favorite games to this day, but it is way to casual unfriendly, meaning that it would never have another mainstream appeal.

And embrace.. the future :^)
>>
>>381810030
Seems like it could be interesting, but considering the general consensus around GTA IV, which was supposed to be that gritty realistic game of the series, there's no way anything like it would ever be accepted or tried again. I loved the general seedyness of IV compared to the other games, but GTA fans love the zanyness far too much to see it go.
>>
>>381812656

Trevor wasn't the worst part about GTA:V
>>
>>381812915
I agree with you, but he still represents everything the developers thought *WE* wanted in a game. Which is true, when it comes to GTA, but it would still be nice if they added some slower pace optional things into the game. I mean, hanging out with friends and the like was ok, but nowhere near as in depth as IV. There's got to be a way to incorporate the best aspects of all these game into some kind of an amalgam that works for everybody.
>>
>>381812915
I actually really liked the characters and found them interesting, and liked hunting down everything there was to know about them, and for me, the biggest stinker about V is the AI. I would even go so far as to say it could ruin everything else about the game.
>>
>>381813394
For me, it was the shitty car handling/crash physics, by far. Second was the story, but that was more pacing issues than anything else. Would have liked more development, especially on Trevor and Franklin, and Stretch and Devin Weston.

>speed limits
Those were terrible since you have to painfully drive from once site of the boring lifeless city to the other every single mission and it makes it tedious since when you are forced to drive across there is absolutely nothing interesting happening in the outdated open empty world.

>>challenging enemies/level design
The levels in this game are either linear corridors or huge open spaces with enemies running around trying to gun you down, what makes it challenging is that the AI has perfect aiming so you have to peck from a corner all the time. Other than that the levels are boring Arcade-dy shooting sections that don't even allow you an alternative paths for completing the missions other than killing everybody in the floor/corridor and move from corridor A to B, also those tacked-in racing mission were also terrible. Also those escort missions were the companion AI is retarded

>and rules of the road in Mafia because it was more immersive
You can murder fucking everybody in the missions even civilians, so the "rules of the mafia" are unconsequential, one mission forces you to kill a dozen of cops after commiting a hit instead of avoiding them and escaping some other way.

>>variation
See above

This game aged pretty badly, the plot on top of that the game is just some bad Good fellas rip-off.
>>
>>381810030
The first two Mafias were great. Too bad about the third.
>>
>>381813525
And less government missions and more heists with more options and variations.

>>381813551
Then why not fix all those issues with MORE, not less, added realism?
>>
Did they fix the Oblivion tier psychic cops?
>>
>>381810030
The AAA audience hates forced roleplaying, they just want to jump from action sequence to action sequence as quickly as possible and don't actually care about art style. See: Stalker, Pathologic
>>
>>381810030
I would like to see the next mafia play similarly to that
>>
>>381813350

i still believe that Trevor was just a filled for RS, because they couldn't fill out a decent story. Look how stupidly convoluted the story of V is.
>>
>>381810030
>playing forced taxi driver for 2 hours
Yea no thanks
>>
I really like this game. I used to play it on my shitty pentium 3 pc with no sound because I didn't know anything about fixing that shit.
Also had my first "granfather walks in" moments when he walked on me being stuck at "the Whore" mission loading screen with the bra.
Later mafias couldn't even compare because no Freeride Extreme

mafia was GOAT
mafia 2 was alright, much better grpahics and ok story line but meh everything else. siffered from literally nothing to do in such a beautiful world
mafia 3 was bad, looked cheap and too much awful social commentary. And there really wasnt anything more to do outside of the story which is why mafia 2 wasnt well received, and why in tanked the company that made it

mafia is done, 4 wont ever get made so kiss the series goodbye

I hate the way they handled Tom's death in II. Killed the whole game for me at that point, but I'd already been wavering.
>>
>>381814608

thank god for that, good that the original crew who developed M1 & M2 is now working on Kingdom Come
>>
>>381814712

how so?,
i know that it was very "fan-service-y" but i think it was a nice throwback to the first game
>>
>>381814608
I liked the "idea" of mafia 3. Set it in Louisiana in the 60s was a cool concept, and you had more freedom to run a rag tag mafia family, but yeah I agree it fell short on a lot of even basic functions. Shame really but for all the sjw shit they pushed im glad it flopped
>>
>>381813525
There are some things with Trevor and Franklin that I would have loved to see fleshed out more, such as their mutual depression and suicidal tendencies and problems with their mothers, as a more solid grounding to their friendship, but I think that they are pretty fleshed out; you just have to do everything: main missions, side activities down to the most mundane, Stranger missions, all hangouts with all friends at multiple points in the story, and also pay careful attention to combat and idle dialogue. Like the only way you'll find out about this side of Franklin is by smoking weed with him and listening to his combat dialogue, and you'll only find this out in Trevor by doing coke, hanging out with Lamar a bunch of times, and hanging out with Michael and Franklin. I thought the way their stories were presented was pretty interesting.

As for Stretch, it's pretty clear from the dialogue in the last mission that he was always meant to be a sideshow to the main villains, which were the FIB and Devin Weston, so I didn't really care if he was fleshed out that much; his actions against Lamar were enough of a reason to go after him, at least for me. As for Devin, I found it refreshing that V's villains weren't really meant to be ones you had a personal vendetta against like in all the older GTAs; they were just assholes who were getting in your way to making it big- more loose ends to tie up. I say this because you're even supposed to see a human side to Steve Haines because of his TV show, where he's a lot nicer. If I took the main goal of the game as just getting rich and being a successful criminal and getting away with it, I was able to accept the villains a lot more easily.

And as for the driving, I basically agree with you, the cars felt too similar to drive and the upgrades besides the armor and bulletproof tires felt pointless. And nothing on the car could save you from the cops just shooting you through the windows and kill you with 100% accuracy.
>>
I'm pretty over GTA. GTA V was a vapid experience that did not deliver on what was really being promised - managing heist missions, a well written crime drama and competent multiplayer.

I just have my fingers cross that it won't be a pandering SJW mess.

I mean, they could have made Vito and Joe actually resemble the duo who killed Tommy in the first game. Worst part was, Joe was pretty spot-on (except the outfit) and the other guy in 1 looked EXACTLY like Eddie, to the point fans of the first game were speculating before release that they were the ones going to kill Tom in II. Could have been perfect.

I also don't dig that the feds sent Tommy to a fictional equivalent of NYC, with FIVE mob families to worry about there, just doesn't make sense. It looked like he'd been relocated to Virginia or PA or something in the first game.

They added shrubs, not a big deal. But they added shrubs. Also the graphics just look uglier and greyer in the redone scene. Meh, whatever.
>>
>>381815772
Just for comparison, here's Eddie in Mafia II.

Really should have included it in the Joe DLC and had you get on a plane to a different state or something for the hit. It was just handled so lazily in II.

Forgot pic.

Also seems a bit weird and forced. It was, what? 1951 or so in Mafia II when you kill Tommy? That's only 13 years after the end of Mafia I, so Tommy probably only in his early 50s here, which doesn't really strike me as accurate. Not to mention, he was in jail for 8 of those years after the end of the first game. Just doesn't seem right. Not to get autistic but this is my favourite game of all time. You have no idea how much time I've wasted on it.
