They were though, just not the conventional type of action game, like DMC or Silent Bomber.
They were Survival-Horror-Action. It was obvious when RE2 gave you the grenade launcher 5 minutes in and a shitton of ammo for a it a while later. They still had horror in them, but they were no Silent Hill, Siren, Fatal Frame or any of those. There's a very good reason Dino Crisis is a spin-off of Resident Evil.
Also, I'm an actionfag, despite 6, the highest rated action game, being lower than majority of the main series, with 1-3, CVX and REmake being above it, and the train section of 0 also being higher.

Someone didn't play the game. After it got patched to hell and back, the QTEs are tolerable, being toned down to bodyslamming enemies and opening doors/jumping. to explain Ada Wong's motivations for why she does anything (besides the plot needing her to be mysterious for no reason)

I enjoyed RE7, but only for one playthrough. The beginning 30 minutes (or more I think) is entirely scripted boring drivel shit and I dread the thought of it every time I even think about doing a speedrun.

The enemies are some of the worst in the series. I don't like crazy BOW Dinosaurs, but seeing the same 4 variations of the moulded is the opposite end of the spectrum.

The antagonists and plot kind of stops being even remotely interesting halfway through. Lucas kind of killed the atmosphere of the game and the real antagonist being le spooby ghost girl cliché wasn't interesting in the slightest.

The protagonist devolving into a jaded asshole who spouts "FUCK" every other scene didn't add to my immersion in any way, shape or form.

And the game had the audacity to end with a nearly 100% scripted final boss fight that depends solely on how much ammo you have for your weapons.

RE7 was better than the abomination that was RE6, but was so heavily flawed I honestly can't play through it more than once and have fun. Don't even get me started on the Mercenaries equivalent and vital backstory on the Bakers being fucking DLC stripping the game even further of content.

Game wasn't hard it was just crap the second you get into a grove for things the game throws more scripted shit at you and has one of the worst cameras I have ever seen in a game.

Bullshit every 5 seconds I got a QTE everytime you get grabbed QTE every scripted meant is a QTE and ever boss has like 8 QTE segments

It will never be as intense as having only 1 shotgun round for a crimson head that's just outside the saferoom in Remake.
I don't want action crap I want horror that's intense.

I don't care how "complex or "hard" 6 is its not an RE game since its not scary has no atmosphere and is just an unfun ride all the way through.
I didn't like the way 4 became more actiony but at least it still had level design and horror to it.
