''Nintendo have published the fact sheet for Metroid Prime 4, revealing new details about the game's storyline and the direction the Switch title is taking.

So far only the logo for the game was revealed in a brief teaser shown during the Nintendo Direct broadcast during E3 2017.

However, now more details have emerged about where Samus Aran’s next adventure will take the iconic character.

The fact sheet for Metroid Prime 4 features a quote from long-time series producer Kensuke Tanabe, who will be working on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch game.

He said: “Metroid Prime 4 returns to the First Person Adventure roots of the original Metroid Prime game and introduces a new storyline that ties together the events of the Metroid Prime universe and takes the storyline in new directions.”

The fact sheet for the game also said the upcoming Switch title will see a return to the first-person perspective of the Nintendo Gamecube and Wii Prime titles.

It also reveals the development team are “hard at work bringing the action, isolation and exploration of the Metroid Prime universe to life on Nintendo Switch.”

The Nintendo document also reveals the Metroid Prime 4 release date is still TBD (to be decided).''
>>
>>381806425
Nintendo previously said the new Metroid game would be released “beyond 2017”.

They only showcased the logo for the game during E3, which suggested that it was early in development.

However, in a recent interview Nintendo bigwig Charlie Scibetta let slip that Metroid Prime 4 could be released as early as 2018.

He said: “We’ve announced a nice lineup through this year, and next year we have some big games coming with Metroid Prime 4. 2018 will be around Metroid, Kirby, Yoshi, new Pokemon game has been announced.

“We feel good about the lineup for this year and beyond.”

While those comments may have boosted fans’ hopes that Metroid Prime 4 could arrive sooner than initially thought, Nintendo quickly clarified the comment.

A representative for Nintendo soon afterwards said Scibatta had meant “2018 and beyond” instead of simply “2018.”

Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime previously spoke about why Metroid Prime 4 was revealed so early on in development.

He said: "We wanted to make it clear that Metroid is an important franchise for us.

"As we think about how to satisfy the needs to the Metroid fans, we needed to make sure they understood there was a great console experience coming, in addition to Metroid: Samus Returns coming on Nintendo 3DS.

“That's what we wanted to make sure it was clear that it wasn't one or the other, that we were going to support both of our platforms with a great new Metroid experience."

Nintendo also revealed during E3 that 3DS owners will get a remake of the second Metroid game, Metroid: Samus Returns.

It will be released in September, with a special edition launched that has a steelbook shaped like a Game Boy cartridge.

But in one blow to long-time fans of the Metroid Prime series, developers Retro Studios - who worked on the original trilogy - will not be involved with Metroid Prime 4.

gayme of the year 2019?
>>

Cautiously optimistic. Zelda was great and odyssey looks to be great so.. hopefully metroid gets the same amount of love.
>>
please don't be another 343 situation
>>
>>381806595
Retro fucked it hard on 2 and 3 so maybe it's good they made a new team instead of giving it back to them. Fucking glad they're going for isolation this time, I don't want any spoken dialogue. Prime 3 fucking sucked because of it.
>>
Do you think they'll keep the classic controls or will it have modern dual analog?

I just got a Switch a couple of hours ago and started Zelda. MP4 sealed the deal, can't wait for this bitch to be released.

Now that a new main series metroid prime game is getting released, is this worth getting?
The only bad things i've heard about it are that its a little hollow in terms of gameplay, but most of its detractions come from people thinking it was released when most people wanted a main series game instead

overall i've heard its worth getting if you have the cash, but it isnt worth saving up for
>>
>>381810786
Bet you anything it'll have spoken dialogue this time.
>>
>>381813773
Will the mole be making a comeback as well?
>>
>>381813757
it's way better than Other M and that piece of shit Hunters that's for sure.
>>
>>381810786
this

i don't why but i've seen a ton of people praising Prime 2 on /v/ recently, that game was garbage compared to the first one (I just played all 3 of them for the first time over the last year)
>>
>>381813773
Prime 3 had spoken dialogue.
>>
>>381813757
Fuck no.

It's not worth it at all. Only buy it if you're big into those co-operative 4 player 3DS games like Triforce Heroes or Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon's multiplayer. And if you want a fun multiplayer experience ESPECIALLY in first person, you can go elsewhere and do better.

So unless you have 1-3 Metroid Fan friends with 3DSes who you think would reliable player partners? Forget about it. All you need to know is Sylux kidnaps a baby Metroid at the end of the game. That's it. Just a plot teaser for MP4. It has Sylux and he's using Metroids somehow.

>>381814003
Hunters was literally one of the best multiplayer FPS games of it's time. if you forgive the bugs/hackers. The multiplayer was fucking immaculate and the singelplayer was filler content that got slapped on as an afterthought.

Go look at a wiki page for the game. Look at all those game modes and maps for multiplayer. Not to mention it's EXTREMELY "ahead of it's time" given that it's one of the first "Hero Shooters" and came out a full decade before stuff like Overwatch started to take off.
>>
>Pure isolation
>Cutscenes kept to a minimum or exclusive to boss battles
>Not linear

And most importantly
>No repetitive "collect these 3 things by doing this same one thing in 3 different places to complete the game" formula from prime 2.

Easy. Metroid is a formula where you have to put effort into fucking up, yet they fucked up a lot.

Prime 1 is perfect. Prime 2 would be good if it wasn't so formulaic. Prime 3 is shit. Other M is Prime 3's retarded cousin.
I'm glad a new dev team at nintendo is doing this.

This.

It's a patrician aiming system. I bet they'll hybridize that basic aiming scheme with Metroid Prime 3's "free lock-on" system. That shit was great.

Do you still have hopes it will be a groundbreaking game?

It will be a decent one, maybe an okay one, and that's it

>>

Okay they are using the right words at least.
It seems they do know what people like about metroid.

Which makes federation force all the more confusing.

I feel like such a good cuck, buying a game I'm hardly even excited for. Prime 1 was OK while 2 and 3 weren't even good. My standards aren't that low.

The last time Tanabe did any actual fucking work on a video game was this, and that just as an "advisor". He's a producer, and has very little say in the actual development process. I doubt he even gets decide to which games actually get made.

Why are people trying to turn him into some kind of scapegoat?

I guarantee you it's not even the final fucking logo. They through together a """""""trailer"""""""" because they had just done the "yes we are working on it" gimmick for Pokemon and couldn't do it twice without being called on the bullshit
>>
>>381813757
Now that the purists finally got what they wanted maybe they can admit that federation force is just mediocre. The gameplay and everything is fine...having more people is required for the experience to be complete though. Its a nice game to go throughI started prime trilogy a couple of days ago for the first time,i just beat the giant plant monster and i got to say i love this game. Im excited to play more
>>
>>381816668
Producers actually have more power than directors as they are the ones in charge of money and the actual decisions, especially at nintendo where directors have no actual say in the direction the game takes and have to get a go for every decision.

If he thought Federation was a steaming pile of shit and said no it would have been stopped that very second.
>>
>>381817058
But there's always AI drones and that one Lone Wolf Mod to help out

i'm also interested in the Trilogy but i'm probably gonna wait on getting it until it gets ported/rereleased on the switch
that's where i'm investing everything and i want to keep all my games together
>>

That is the very reason command structures exist in the first place, so one has the absolute decision and it has proven to work if the one in charge does not fuck up and knows what people want. E.g. BotW compared to SS.
>>
>>381818816
I do not recall BotW being forced to work with a fucking remote as a controller, which most assuredly was not within the director's power to change.

>>
>>381809354
At least they're finally getting their shit together.
>>
>>381817058

Honestly Prime's pacing and design is very consistently good. Flaaghra is a high point but you're only starting out. It's not THE high point.
You're in for a treat.

>metroid prime

>>
>>381814135
>>381810786
I honestly like it better than the first one. A bit creepier and more difficult and that Dark Samus tension is exceptional. Quadraxis, Emperor Ing, and final Dark Samus are all better boss fights than either phases of Metroid Prime.

Not that Metroid Prime was a bad boss, it's just that it didn't have the complexity or care that 2's bosses did.
>>
>>381806425
>so 2019
So Sakamoto will release Metroid Dread for the 3DS the same year as Metroid Prime 4 for the Switch. While Halo 6 returns Halo back to its roots in 2018. Looks like 2018 and 2019 are the 2001 and 2002 of our generation.
>>
>>381820638

Whether or not its made by Retro really doesn't make a difference since the original Prime team no longer even works there.

Corruption is where they were already starting to make metroid into a true halo clone. Linear levels, space marines and a shit ton of dialogue.
>>
Reminder that Samus likes the knot
>>
>>381822236
I wouldn't mind Samus speaking but they should keep it to a minimum. Give us just enough to get an idea of Samus' personality and give her some short, snappy, memorable dialogue. She should be determined badass who rarely speaks but says awesome shit whenever she actually does.
>>
>>381828527
The only major change to Corruptions level design is limited fast travel replacing elevators.

None of its individual areas are any more linear than the likes of Magmoor Caverns or Phazon Mines.

>and a shit ton of dialogue.
Mostly in the form of an AI intelligence being the context for your hint system instead of your ship talking to you after the first hour, with most of the dialogue in Norion being there so Dark Samus turning the game on its head and making the other hunters evil would be a lot more effective. It's got the darkest atmosphere of the three Primes by far and by contrasting the isolated environments from Bryyo onwards to the tutorial where you've got a comrades it does a much better job selling Samus' loneliness than any other Metroid game, especially as you watch her body slowly fall apart over the course of the quest.

But Metroid fanboys are so triggered by lines of text that they immediately cry foul when one shows up I guess. I imagine even Super Metroids intro monologue would be considered too much with the current attitude the fanbase has given how even fucking U-Mos, who you talk to maybe twice, gets criticism for ruining the vibes.
>>
I hope that we can play the game with the normal (Pro) controller instead of wagglan

They really should give us the option and I'm someone who liked the pointer controls.

If they ever make an HD re-release of MPT, they should give you the option to use a regular controller as well, maybe even the Gamecube controller with the adapter.

There is no escape. The Pro Controller has a gyro.
>>
>>381830092
not him
but gyro isnt waggle, its just simple motion
waggle is making exaggerated motions with the controller in order for certain inputs to be registered
though in metroid prime's case i think point-n-shoot has enough support to be included

I'm playing federation force and I love the controls. The game isnt bad, only the artstyle.

Major problem with Corruption was that you can tell it was rushed. Especially around the end.

The power ups just sucked more and more (oh man, acid rain shield wow) and the final boss was a fucking joke.

im gonna be disappointed if we dont get the ballspark back or at least a damaging boost ball in the new metroid games
>>
>>381834000
I really wish we'd gotten more out of the Gunship Visor. It's only really necessary like twice throughout the whole game.
>>
>>381834000
That's what happens when Nintendo forces its devs to make a game in less than the time needed for a good polished game.
>>
>>381834248
The visors in 3 were lame.
Gunship really is only obligatory like twice to advance, and who fucking knows why they though gunship ammo upgrades needed to exist at all.
The "X-Ray" visor was a godforsaken hybrid of thermal and actual X-Ray. It was pretty bad.
I also hated how beam upgrades were permanent to make way for the stupid hypermode.

I still love the game but goddamn all those things disappointed me so much.
>>
>>381814135
Echoes only issue is the backtracking and ammo system, otherwise it's just as good as the first with even better environments and kickass music.
>>
>>381834879
>The "X-Ray" visor was a godforsaken hybrid of thermal and actual X-Ray. It was pretty bad.
I didn't like MP3 all that much, but using the X-Ray Visor in conjunction with the Nova Beam to snipe weak spots on enemies was fun as fuck actually. One of the few really cool things that game did.
>>
>>381823849
Granted I haven't played it since release but Corruption is an alright game, it clearly got way too ambitious and lost focus about halfway through the game. The linear sections are cool but the multiple planets idea was just too much for such a small team to tackle, so you feel like you're trapped in this tiny fragment of an entire planet.

Otherwise it was just a little too easy and had a few too many scripted moments.
>>
>>381835252
Well I guess I can respect that.
But you have to grant me the fact that the thermal and X-Ray in 1 and the motherfucking cool Echo (dark visor was pretty boring though) visor in 2 are leaps and bounds more interesting than a nigh useless green filter visor and two visors from the first game glued together.
>>
>>381835729
Of course.

It really is a shame that the Echo Visor were barely used and that they'll probably never put it in another game. It was a cool, unique idea that was never realized to its full potential, like the Gunship Visor.

>My source was not aware of ‘Metroid: Samus Returns’ on 3DS, suggesting the game is handled by a completely different team with few, if any, overlapping members
>Prototypes and concepts go back to “what must be early 2015, they’ve been trying to figure out what to do with Metroid for a while”
>Metroid Prime 4 was added to the E3 spotlight “pretty late in the game” and my source stressed “this information was made known to me earlier in the week”
>Nintendo considers the early reveal of “Zelda for WiiU” to be a mistake, and opted for a short teaser for Metroid Prime 4
>Development is beyond the concept stages, a gameplay teaser “could have been possible for E3, if E3 were held just a week later”
>Early concepts included a take at the “cinematic experience” genre, supposedly “a bit like Uncharted or The Last of Us, very heavy on cutscenes and motion capture”
>The concept and development was locked in to the Metroid Prime 4 formula after the negative reception to “Metroid Prime: Federation Force”
>The current game plan is described as “the same, but different” by my source

This.

We can talk about whether or not those were directly his fault, but either way, we have reason to be a bit skeptical.
>>
>>381834879
Originally the Gunship was going to have a lot more times to use it for bombarding enemy groups, structures, blockages, etc. But they ran out of time.
>>
>>381836656

>>381836664
Neither are his fault.
Chibi-Robo got a cute non-mainline platformer, Color Splash was an improvement over Sticker Star and we have two new Metroid games

>>

Remember, he produced Sticker Star as well, and Zip Lash did incredibly poorly. I wouldn't say those games came out the way they did solely because of Tanabe, but he was a lead figure on them, and they don't make for a good track record, at least not for modern Nintendo.
>>
>>381825645
But motion controls literally made Prime better.
>>
>>381837509
>he produced Sticker Star
Right.

>Zip Lash did incredibly poorly
Right, but sales != quality

>I wouldn't say those games came out the way they did solely because of Tanabe
Right, because that would be due to directors, planners etc.

>lead figure
Look up what Producer does.
>>
>>381837686
>sales != quality
Of course, but you'd be hard pressed to find people who call Zip Lash a good game, or at least a valuable entry to the series.

>Look up what Producer does
Okay.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_producer
>Producers basically manage the relationship with the artist. They find the talent, work out product deals, get contracts signed, manage them, and bring them to their conclusion.
>...the internal producer is ultimately responsible for timely delivery and final quality of the game.
>...So the final game design is a result the effort of the designer and some influence of the producer.

At Nintendo especially, we have a lot of examples of "producers" having a substantial hand in the development of games. Again, I won't argue that Zip Lash, Paper Mario, and Fed Force are solely the fault of Tanabe, but he sure did have some part of what became of them.
>>
>>381836656
>Nintendo considers the early reveal of “Zelda for WiiU” to be a mistake, and opted for a short teaser for Metroid Prime 4
Why? It didn't really change that much.

Incredible.

Okay dude, get me a source that tells you that a video game producer has little to no influence on the final game they work on. I'll wait. In the meantime, you have all the time in the world to evolve your thoughts on Wikipedia beyond that of an old grade school teacher.

So Prime is not part of the proper canon Metroid universe and is more like some parallel spinoff?
