As far as I know when the game first launched there was always one thread up most of the time because there was stuff to discuss (Being a metroidvania with some detail so people talked about how to get items, how to get grubs, how to get to areas, their experiences, lore and stuff like that) and it was a pretty solid game (Though admittedly with some terrible performance issues that ended up being frustrating until they were at least partially fixed since the game ate your inputs when that happened). I don't know actually. I have a couple of old controllers that work with everything. Two old reliables.
Truthfully though, Hollow Knight can't detect my controllers for some reason. It's the ONLY game that can't detect them. Apparently a lot of people are having controller issues with this game. So it's probably the game dev's fault. In any case, I simply used a program to map keyboard keys to my controller. Worked like a Charm. The program is called Joystick Cursor Control Tool. Very simple.
