no shit
big fish eat little fish

Didn't the sign tell you to leave an offering?
>>
>>381791769
but how was i supposed to know that offering was to be a fish.

You were supposed to read it in GamePro or EGM, or log into ign64.com

Where were you in the 90s
>>
>>381792157
its easy to forget that plus on a first playthrough there is no sort of indication you could interact with the world in that way.
>>
>>381790935
Is this the weekly " i am too dumb to play ocarina of time" thread?
>>
>>381792362
Fuck off. If you couldn't get it when 1996 rolled about and in the lords year of 2017 you are still questioning it. I think you have serious problems op.
>>

I quit after getting stuck inside this thing. I just lost interest completely by then.

I was stuck on this for years as a child.
>>
>>381792551
the game came out in 1998.
im just questioning obtuse game design that is clearly outdated. It is your problem if you are offended by it.
>>
>>381792383
It's one of those threads where we pretend older games that are critically acclaimed are actually shit because they're unintuitive, but unintuitive in the sense that the game didn't hold your hand and explicitly guide you to do one thing or another.

The usual suspect is "how was i supposed to know to jump in the paintings?" in Super Mario 64.
>>
>>381792803
I'm just saying, looking at cliff as a impassable barrier is an obtuse way of thinking like yours. Trying to find ways around it is what the game facilitates. You, are the problem. Design stands solid.
>>
>>381792931
except this is legitimately obtuse and poorly communicated. It doesn't have to do with hand holding or whatever meme nonsense.
>>
Hundreds of six year olds completed OoT OP. Are you saying that you couldn't solve a puzzle that hundreds of young children could?

I obviously don't know if other kids used guides back in 1998, and I doubt they did, but my friends and I sure didn't. I remember almost begging a friend of mine at the time to tell me how he got the Fire Arrows.

I didn't know how to get the fire arrows or that fire arrows were even in the game for years and I even had the whole supercheats dot com page practically memorized by the time I was 9, so maybe it was lesser known - is that even possible?

I remember in 2001 asking the neighbor boy's older brother at the front door of their house and he told me to shoot the sun when it comes up, I ran home and did that and my file was complete, 100%.

>>

>My personal experience, is a valid, universal argument.

Why don't you just learn to think you piece of shit?

Most 6 years old figured it out, i am not just talking about ME, but the fact that the vast majority didn't bother, having/finding a guide, they just played the game on their own, until they figure it out.

Isn't what the pleasure of an adventure game is? Figure it out for yourself?

Obviously, you little child need everything written in big and big dots on your map, because your logical and intuitive ability are completely fried up between youtube bullshit and angry birds.
>>
>>381794368
It was easy enough to figure out (they're even nice enough to make it morning the very moment you complete the Water Temple), but the major problem was that time between when you can first get them and when you fucking need them (there was one puzzle in Ganon's Castle that couldn't be solved with Din's Fire instead, dunno if remakes changed that) was huge. So if you walked away without realizing you skipped out on that, well, fuck... where are they.

I didn't know that I had to look up to activate Gohma. I was stuck 3 days wandering around the deku tree trying various things until a friend told me what to do. This was before I had the internet as well.

OoT was also one of my first full 3D games Everything else I played before that was usually a lot less open and didn't allow freely looking around.
>>
If you talk around Zora's domain because you're too stupid to figure out that a big ol' aquatic creature probably eats fish and because Ruto disappeared during a feeding, one of the Zora will say the following line verbatim-

>According to the "Legend of Zora," the act of offering a fish to Lord Jabu-Jabu will make you happy.

Fuck you for making me have to find a line of dialogue I never read in the actual game because even my eight-year-old self was apparently smarter than your dumb ass.

Is it? Is dialogue not a part of the game? If a game's dialogue is made unecessary, there's no reason to have it at all.
If dialogue is going to be present, is it really "bad game design" to have it be a part of the game?

Dialogue is used to flesh out the world, especially in zelda. When the game that relies on its level design, mise en scene, and diagetic sound designs to, doing the exact throwing a curve ball that is using a line of easily missed dialogue to be the key to progress is bad design. The game would be better if it was more clear in communicating the requirements for progression.

>Dialogue is used to flesh out the world
Who says? In a game like Phoenix Wright, dialogue is necessary to play the game. You could make the same argument for adventure games. If there's going to be dialogue in a game, it makes sense to justify it's existence. Dialogue itself is a mechanic in your toolbox, it doesn't have to be purely cosmetic.
>doing the exact throwing a curve ball that is using a line of easily missed dialogue to be the key to progress is bad design. The game would be better if it was more clear in communicating the requirements for progression.
So what separates Kass' riddles in BOTW, then? Would you know to get struck by lightning standing on a rock without dialogue? Is that bad game design that should've been cut?

The one that really stumped me was this one web in the final area that was Ganon taken over Hyrule castle.

I tried to bomb it, throw fire sticks at it, chuchu mob it, but nothing worked.

I had to look online and discovered I specifically needed the fire arrow that I didn't even know how to get.

It was a real stupid moment. I was stuck on it for like 3 days.
