How hard are the puzzles in this game if I'm a stupid asshole? I don't have problems with basic problem solving and connecting dots, but I'm a complete brainlet when it comes to thinking outside the box and unorthodox solutions.
>>
>>381785395
A little harder than Zelda games, easier compared with the entire point & click genre.
>>
>>381785395
They aren't very hard if you take your time exploring every part if the room and seeing what the characters say. VLR is much harder than 999 though.
>>
>>381785395
The puzzles are pretty easy, just search the whole room for clues and connecting the dots is a piece of cake. I only had some issues with the true ending ones.
>>
they are hard but reasonable if you take your time
>>
They were all pretty easy... except for the very first one

999's puzzles are extremely easy overall with a couple that might throw you off, while VLR's are actually reasonably challenging throughout

also hey
>>
>mfw the room I was stuck in for the longest was the very first one because I didn't see the closet with the red suitcase
Yeah, the puzzles really aren't all that hard, and if all else fails you can basically just brute-force most of them.
>>
The most important thing OP is to make sure you click everything. Pay attention to what get's outlined so you know what you could still click and pay close attention to what characters say. I think the puzzles are really easy but I like puzzles so I don't think I'm a good gauge for it. That said I do remember 999 giving plentiful hints.
>>
>>381785843
Same thing happened to me man. At least it taught me to comb every inch of a room because I never had it happen gain until one really poorly designed room in VLR.

I still don't understand how the first puzzle works, despite being fine with every other puzzle even beat the last one in under 5 minutes
>>
Is it bad I literally just looked up the solution to the final puzzle? Soduku is a shit puzzle game.
>>
>>381786217
Hey at least you weren't playing inverted Sudoku because you emulated the game.
>>
>>381785395
Very easy if you're into puzzles and they are very managable if you hate puzzles too. If you fail too much at them, the characters will give you more clues until they straight up tell you what you should do.

I'm shit at puzzles but if you examine the whole room and click on everything, it's really easy to complete the puzzles.

>>381786572
>inverted Sudoku because you emulated the game
This was me for 45 mins. My neck hurt at the end of it but I loved every second. The music track at that point was great.
>>
>>381786217
>>381786781
>having trouble with one of the easiest sudoku puzzles ever made
Seriously, I know they couldn't make it as tough as regular sudoku because then you'd basically have to copy the puzzle onto paper so that you could mark possibilities and such, but it really shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. Also, what emulator were you using that couldn't flip the screen? Desmume is capable of it.

>VLR gold solutions
>>
>>381785395
Honestly 999's puzzles are mostly very easy and simple, VLR/ZTD put a bit more thought into them.
>>
>>381787292
In a couple of rooms i got the gold solution first and then had no idea what the normal one was.
>>
>>381785395
The geardes puzzle in 999 is understanding why would Junpei give a shit about someone he didn't even remember or was close enough to know she had a fucking brother.
>>
>>381785395
A little difficult, but not impossible
A lot of logic puzzles nearing the end, some of which tend to draw on your ability to understand base.

yes he did. did you even go into the shower room with her?
>>
>>381787240
I know how to play Sudoku and I just don't like it. Didn't help my battery was dying and I just wanted to get through it fast as possible.
>>
>>381787374
this, in one of the rooms I got the gold solution, and then I was completely fucking lost for the regular one
>>
>>381788219
Junpei didn't give two shits about Akane until 999 happened. She was that girl that moved somewhere else and he forgot about her. Didn't event met her brother or parents.
Them 999 happens and he is suddenly okay with being played like a tool. It reminds me of FF8 '''romance'''
>>
>>381785843
Same, expect I didn't realize you could examine the pillow with the clue for one of the briefcases, I'd click on the bed and think it was all there was I never thought the pillow was an individual object.
>>
>>381787374
This. Had this happen a couple of times. I miss the easter egg files.
>>
>>381785803
How did you rip the sprites
>>
>played 999 years ago
>don't remember much about it
>wanna play VLR and ZTD but feel like I should replay 999 first
>don't want to replay 999 since I know the twis
fucking video games
>>
>>381792193
There is already an existing rip, but a tool called kid tools gui (version 21b080717) also exists and is not too difficult to find
>>
>>381785395
I was 12 when I first played this game and even I could beat every puzzle without a walkthrough. If a retarded preteen could do it than so can you.
>>
>>381785395
>beat 999
>I feel fucking smart
>start VLR
>I feel like a stupid piece of shit

Yeah 999 is easy

I only played the pc port. I was so looking forward to sudoku puzzle but it never came. I had to emulate 999 and load state to play it. not sure if the rest of the puzzles had changes.
>>
>>381793936

I just played through 999, VLR, and ZTD past few of weekends. This is exactly how I felt.

Difficulty of puzzles
VLR>>>ZTD=999

Should I play VLR on 3ds or pc?
>>
>>381795649
pc for sure, the 3ds version has only one save file and it can corrupt if you save at the wrong time

make sure to run multiple saves just in case
>>
>I already played 999 on an emulator
>I want to buy VLR for PC
>The only way to get this is to buy the bundle (999 included) for 40 bucks
This sucks.
>>
>>381795180
>tfw solved the last dice puzzle all by myself
Felt so proud. It took 2 hours but still.
>>
>>381793936
I'm finishing a degree in maths this year, and so far being able to solve the puzzles in VLR is the only use I've gotten out of it
>>
>>381795649
3ds is nice because they make good use of the second screen and being able to display notes while you explore the rooms is a godsend. I have to recommend pc though because at least it won't decide to shit on your save two thirds of the way into the game

they're fairly easy, final puzzle was really hard tho and even today i can't make heads nor tails of what i'm supposed to do
>>
>>381799701
It's just Sudoku. The rules are that in a block there must numbers 1 to 9 however a number can't be repeated in the same vertical or horizontal line. Knowing that you just have to fill the empty spaces.
>>
>>381800005
that's the joke
>>

Pirate it
>>
Can you recommend more games like the Zero Escape and the Danganronpa Series? I can't get into VNs but when it's semi VN like these games I really enjoy it.
>>
>>381801167
Ace Attorney
Ghost Trick
If you are willing to give up on gameplay then Ever17,Remember11, Root Double, Steins;Gate and Umineko
>>
I guess I must be a genius for getting through VLR without any real issues. The only puzzle I really hate was the dice one.
>>
>>381801398
Thanks mate but
>Ass Attorney
>Ghost Trick
Does it really end there? We seriously need more games
>>
>>381802341
Hotel Dusk too but it doesn't have much to do with 999/DR
>>
>>381801167
Phoenix Wright
Hotel Dusk
Time Hollow (I personally didn't like this one)
Not sure if Theresia counts, I didn't even finish it.
Lux Pain (the translation was really bad when I played it years ago, not sure if it has changed)
>>
>>381802643
Also I forgot Ghost Trick but >>381801398 got you covered. Really good one.
