If you were to say that AAI2 is overrated then yeah sure I'd agree with you, It's a game with fun cases and really memorable characters but people tend to overlook it's flaws (like the sheer number of coincidences going on during some of the crimes). The only reason why someone could think that it's outright "mediocre" is if they just really miss the courtroom setting though.

The first three ace attorney games are actually the best trilogy of games ever made.
Apollo justice is ok, as well as the other spin offs, like the edgeworth ones, the layton one and so on.
But the ds version of the those first three games... they are gorgeus. I shed a tear in all those games. They are more intense than some action games

It's overrated because it's mediocre though.

Gregory Edgeworth's last case is a bake sale gone wrong with boring characters who couldn't for the life of them shut the hell up. That should've been the best case in the entire series and here I am falling asleep to it.

After loving Ghost Trick I decided to get the trilogy and... I don't really like it that much. Don't get me wrong, characters and story are all great again.

But gameplay is really frustrating. A lot of the times the answer could be multiple things and a lot of puzzles could have various ways to be solved. But the game insists to only have one solution, and this can be annoying when you can fail the case and repeat stuff all over again.

From the sound of it, Takumi got better at gameplay mechanics/flow but worse at overall plotting as his career progressed. I feel that he's better at writing character dialogue than he is story, PLvsPW had a ton of flaws but the banter wasn't one of them I think and the dialogue in the newer games just doesn't feel as sharp or punchy.

The devs couldn't agree on anything when making that game and the development process was a clusterfuck apparantly. I'm assuming this wouldn't be an issue when it's two of Capcom's/Takumi's own works crossing over.

That being said I still enjoyed that game all in all. 2nd & 3rd cases were fun to solve, it had a fair few likeable characters in there, and the music and atmosphere were top tier. The game made me want Maya to return too (and then AA6 made me want her to fuck off)

Nah, there's a lot to dislike about it but people just have more fun meming about the video in 4-3 or something. It tried a few new things (it's not as experimental as people think it is though, not when it's big new MC is just a knockoff AA1 Phoenix, AA5 has tons of flaws but atleast it's new MC felt distinct and different whereas Apollo still doesn't even by the end of AA6 somehow) and I do think it was a better attempt at continuing off of where AA3 left off than AA5 was overall.
Unfortunately most of the characters were annoying, almost every case ended on an anticlimactic note, every single supporting character held the player's hand the entire time, the game in general is slow as fuck due to the slow unadjustable text speed and overly long animations despite being the shortest game in the series, and most of the actually interesting parts of the plot happen offscreen. A lot of the new things it tried just weren't executed that well in general.
