Not sure why people believe 3 is worse than the other two. The non-linearity in Prime 1 is pure nonsense and just leading to time-wasting bullshit like text messages literally popping up to tell you "you don't have the item to enter this place yet, go back (40 minutes walk)". Game also always telling you where you have to go. Or how even the most annoying enemies respawn all the time (Chozo Ghosts) and how even room-centric progress is resetted when you reenter a room (that tower where you have to destroy parts with missiles; you want to go back to get two more missiles you need, suddenly the whole tower is whole again and you have to backtrack again to get even more missiles).

2 just has horrible music and art style with boring as fuck locations and annoying kind of difficulty.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8_FVsdGGEc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ezjE4ZMrD0

Easily the best OST if you actually have any clue about music.

It's also funny how people complain about lack of atmosphere and "isolation" in 3 when it's the only one with some actually creepy locations and horror elements (corpse behind the door in Elysia, Valhalla).

I don't care about your opinion, btw.

Also the music is quite different from prime 1 and 2. It's got Epic Vowels which some people don't like. It doesn't have that Metroid-y feeling to it (the music).

>>
>>381784471
No I think he is right. I didn't play the series back to back and even I got bored of 3 like half way through. I did manage to beat it though and I go back and play every prime game again once in a while when in the mood, and even then I still have to force myself to play 3 despite 1 and 2 still being so easy to plow through in a day just because they are so fun

>>
>>381784883
That's not 100% fair, though. Maybe Prime 1 is more fun on the second playthrough since you know everything and it's satisfying to speed through the ideal way instead of facing those dead ends.

Most people won't finish the games more often than maybe twice or even once, though.
>>
>>381785076
I know pretty much everything about all three games and played each multiple times. I still like prime 3 despite thinking it is the weakest and the hardest to play when comparing to the other 2
>>
>>381782068
>2 just has horrible music and art style with boring as fuck locations and annoying kind of difficulty.
Never got the people who hated on 2's music. It's almost just as good as the first game's, and the good stuff there is some of the franchise's best.

For example, I never got why everyone always goes on about MP1's title theme when the second game's was better.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCeNFmqRjLY

Posting MP3's is laughable considering that there's only a few good songs and it's definitely inferior to the other two.

Kinda sad that Prime 4 is releasing on what is effectively 2006-era hardware. Yes I know, it's extremely powerful for a handheld, but for a console it's still barely better than the Wii U which was barely better than 360/PS3. I would have loved to see a huge leap in fidelity from Prime 3.

Good example of Prime 2 being poorly designed. Once you enter the Sanctuary Fortress, you can get cut off from the rest of the game, behind a save point and a very poorly designed boss since it focuses on a part of the game that has very finnicky controls. If you missed any Energy Tanks or anyrthing you're shit out of luck and can't explore or try to get any stronger, breaking core design philosophy.

I can't remember the exact percentage but you can check it inside your ship. Only goes up whenever you beat another leviathan since the process of destroying the core usually overcharges you with phazon.
>>
>>381794202
Then it's the room by the Light of Aether area. You drop down and need Spiderball to get back up and are locked into a relatively small area.
If the savepoint was on the otherside of the cut off point it wouldn't be so bad but it's on the wrong side of it and I feel that goes against very core design philosophy espoused by Retro, along with the general poorness of the design of that boss fight.
>>
>>381794582
And on Phaaze you can't go back to your ship since it doesn't recognize you anymore.

I don't know what you're referring to, I'm afraid.

Oh I remember what you're talking about now. Yes, there is that Spider Ball track preventing you from returning before you beat the Spider Ball guardian.

Yes, that thing is kinda bullshit.
Even if you keep the Spider Ball from the start of the game by skipping the item loss cutscene, that Spider Ball track is the only one in the game besides the Guardian's room which doesn't work. It only activates after you beat the boss.
Fortunately, a ghetto jump lets you escape.

It's literally just an illusion of no handholding and non linearity in 1 and 2. Casuals love this, makes them feel less casual while they're actually still casuals in their comfort zone. That's why they prefer 3 over 1. No fake shit to brag with in 3.

The good version of Prime 1 is just as nonlinear as Super - perhaps more. All it takes is the skill to do the right dash in the right place and you can cut out entire hours of gameplay.
It may even be better than Super in that regard, keeping in mind that there's no meaningful sequence breaking until you reach Red Tower.

There's no shortage of Metroidvanias.
The Metroid series is unique in that its best games not only permit you to sequence break, they teach you to do it and encourage you to do it. They hide secrets in their level design to accommodate it. There are sequence breaks for every single skill level, letting you hone your skills without ever hitting a cliff.
I have yet to find a single other series that scratches this same itch as elegantly or interestingly.

>>

I disagree, the dynamic is quite different.
Without the Dark Suit, the Quadraxis fight is about being able to consistently deal damage so you can get the health pickups. It's not so much about beating him quickly, but about never letting the pace of the fight slow.
If health pickups weren't around then it would simply be about speed.

the health pick ups are large and easy enough to get that they remove much of the urgency of the fight, but also sadly much of the challenge

It's possible (but not practical unless you're a TASer or have Biospark-tier skills) to do a VMR in the original NA version with three tanks. Actually, getting the Spider Ball doesn't do that in Echoes. The cutscene after killing Quadraxis just always loads the Dark Suit's morph ball, because it assumes you have the Dark Suit. Then when Samus unmorphs it actually checks what suit you have and loads the right one.
>>
>>381813363

It's probably a nonstandard morph, then.
For example, you might obtain the spider ball when you already have the gravity suit. The first cutscene shows the two plates of the morph ball coming together, which have the varia suit colours. Then the camera switches to a different angle, and you suddenly have the gravity suit colours because this is a real morph ball and not just morph ball pieces manipulated in a cutscene.
>>
>>381813807
Yeah, it's just the cutscene thinking it knows what to load instead of actually checking what it should be at the start.

>>
>>381815530

I did something similar. It was on the save file where I skipped the Gravity Suit; I can't remember exactly what happened, unfortunately.

Usually the game thinks of suits in a sequential fashion. If you beat the Omega Pirate with the Varia Suit, then for the remainder of the cutscene you will appear to have "Varia+1" which is clearly the Gravity Suit. But then the cutscene ends, and you have the Phazon Suit again.
In the same way, if you skip the Phazon Suit and fight Metroid Prime with the Gravity Suit then you will appear to be wearing the Varia Suit after your suit is stolen. Until the cutscene continues outside the artifact temple, when you have the Gravity Suit again.

Interestingly and like Super, the Varia Suit seems to be the only powers which are "inherited" by having the superior suit. With only the Gravity Suit you aren't damaged by heat, but having the Phazon Suit doesn't grant you free movement in water.
With the Gravity Suit your visor still steams up before entering a heated room, and you still get the warning messages. But it's perfectly safe to enter them.
Similarly in Prime 2 you can have the Light Suit without the Dark Suit. You will still hear the hissing damage sound when you enter Ingswarm or the poison gas clouds, but no damage will occur.

Various sequence breaking patches. Space Jump First is much more difficult in this version of the game for example, and is totally patched out of the Wii versions.

The lore was neutered. Some of the changes regarding Metroid Prime arguably fixed plotholes though.

Patrician taste right here

They're all great games, but I think only 2 and 3 have notable cracks in them. I really can't think of any flaws that the first game has.

2 has the bullshit beam ammo mechanic and has the least amount of map inter-connectivity in the trilogy. 3 has useless waggle mechanics and a story that's a bit uninspired and gets pushed in your face way too much for a Metroid game (second only to Other M in that department).

3 is fun for about 75% of the way through, and then feels like a slog up until the end afterwards. The other two games feel great all the way through, even with the beam ammo mechanics in Prime 2.
>>
3 > 2 > 1

I genuinely think they kept getting better.

Prime 1 had rather weak combat. Prime 2 is top notch - beam ammo is a complete non-issue, it actually makes fights more interesting.

Not from my experience. If anything, I felt that combat in Prime 2 was actually a bit easier, especially due to things like Seeker Missiles.

Only notable exceptions in Prime 2 being some of the minibosses in the original release of the game. I'm sure a lot of people in here have vivid memories of original US release Boost Guardian.

I liked it well enough to overlook it.
I liked aiming in 3 well enough to overlook the stupid moments with unnecessary waggle.

I think it is retarded to say one is a flaw and the other is perfect.

>>

Automatically garbage, this alone is enough to make it the worst of the three. It's the complete antithesis of Metroid and added nothing to the game.
>>
>>381819481
I rarely found a good time to use seekers desu, supers always seemed more useful.

besides that, a lot of Prime's enemies weren't very fun to fight. The beginning of the game is terribly boring, no game should be proud of having a garbage disposal unit as a boss. Even the "real" bosses are quite boring - Flaahgra is stupidly simple and Thardus is dragged out so long it becomes boring. Echoes is not only packed with bosses, they're all interesting.
Even regular enemies sucked. Chozo Ghosts are practically a meme but even Beam Pirates are stupid annoying.

I still think Prime is better than Echoes (just as I think Super is better than Fusion) but Echoes and Fusion both had some fantastic boss fights and had generally superior combat.
>>
>>381819335
I never had an issue with it, to be honest. It's not hard to find a bright orange or red icon to scan. I can understand some people being annoyed with it though.
>>
>>381819937
Echoes has the Dark Space Troopers where the doors will lock until they're gone, you can't defend that especially if you're going to complain about Chozo Ghosts.
>>
>>381782639
correct
>>
>>381820046

Dark Pirates can be killed with a single charged dark beam followed by a missile. You can also track them with the Dark Visor which you get way earlier than the X-Ray Visor you need for the Ghosts.
>>
>>381820038
It looks worse and was a definite improvement in the other games.

I just hate when people don't give credit to the improvements and how everything has to fucking extremes here.
>>
>>381820170
Ghosts can be ignored entirely except for one of the Artifacts in Flaaghra's chamber.
>>
>>381782068
>He finds Chozo Ghosts to be annoying

What? They're pretty fucking fun. I actually love fighting them personally.

Never had a problem with them. Is this some new meme I'm not aware of?
>>
>>381820170
I thought Chozo ghost can be killed with one super missle. Which you get really early.
>>
>>381820307

They have awful music, turn invisible and dart around so you can't find them, and infest the entire Chozo Ruins after getting the Ice Beam.
Fortunately, you don't need to return to Chozo Ruins after the Ice Beam until the artifact hunt.

>>381820416
It's one super followed by one charge shot. Not too bad but still rather expensive.
>>
>>381820508
>awful music
It's actually one of my favorite tracks in the game.
>turn invisible and dart around
What is the X-Ray visor? Switch that shit on and lock on. You'll never lose them.
>infest the entire Chozo Ruins
Yeah, and you can actually ignore most of them. I actually like fighting them though.

Again, this has to be some new meme I don't understand. Maybe a bunch of newbies playing Prime for the first time and being bad.

Later prime isn't consistent, the plot hole is worse because now Prime has space pirate technology somehow without ever breaking out.

>>

No, one super downs a ghost on normal mode.
>>
>>381822964
Maybe it's different in different versions? Keeping in mind that the Wii version changed the difficulty settings a bunch.
>>
>>381822853
I'm pretty sure that was also implied by the "OG" US lore as well.

Hell, there are a ton of lore inconsistencies throughout the whole trilogy, Prime 3 being especially guilty for muddying things up.

In the first version they experimented on Metroid Prime, had some nice foreshadowing and explained some of its features and abilities. It was great. the only issue was how it got out of the impact crater and back in, so they removed all the references but then it still has all the abilities that were put into effect with those references in mind.

Yes, actually.

I really don't get the massive issues that people give 1 and 2 besides "MUH GWAFICS"

Even then, there's Zero Mission and AM2R if you really can't stand 8-bit for some reason.

Fusion was just a stale experience. There's really nothing memorable about it, outside of the ties it has to Other M (which is not a good thing).
>>
>>381786446
Torvus Bog Theme beats almost everything in the first Prime.

you already made up your mind. Even if you don't like Fusion, this is plain wrong.

Tell me then, what's memorable about Fusion?

Is it the bland level designs? Is it the boring and generic story? I could maybe give you SA-X if the Prime series didn't pull off the concept of an evil Samus clone a lot better.
