Depends on the game or edition of a game I choose to purchase

Usually if it's multiplat I'll get the PC version due to that being my most powerful machine I own. Unless it has some serious issues on launch.

If it's something that can be fun on the go, like a 2D sidescroller or something, I get it on the Vita.
If a specific edition is exclusive to a console (like Nier:A black box one being PS4 exclusive) I get it for that etc.

It can also depend on the community size or staggered release (which is annoying)

Sony is basically my go-to multiplat console. I get all my multiplats on sony based consoles, because the exclusives are usually also games I'm interested in.

Only time I buy for PC are indies, and PC classics like Doom, Deus Ex, Monkey island, System shock 2,etc.

I live 40 miles away from the office and can't be assed to move to the city, so I prefer to play on a handheld. The Vita's comfy, has good games that I like and doesn't have the same BING BING 1UP WAHOO stigma the 3DS carries when commuting. I also have a base for it, so I can play and watch Annie May on my desk for extra comfiness points.
PS4 has exclusives, while PC has emulation and no paid online. Neither see much play nowadays though.
Lastly, the 3DS is an unergonomic, underpowered piece of fucking shit with little to offer besides SMTIV, Project Mirai and the worst Pokeymans ever made. Should be avoided at all costs.

For multiplats, I play on whatever system the game was originally designed for. For instance, I played the PS4 version of Nier Automata because all the games beforehand have been console exclusives, primarily on Playstation, and the PC version just seem derived from the base PS4 version and was buggy. Another example being I played the PC version of XCOM 2 because that was clearly the original version.

Games with multiple versions/remasters are a case-by-case basis depending on ho much they fuck with the original game. Everything else is easy, just play it on the original console or via suitable emulation like VC or PSN.

In short, most big budget games I get on PC. Most indie games I get on Switch since platform makes zero difference and the handheld bonus is nice. A few nip games (like Fate Extella) meet the specific conditions that I'll get them on PS4 over Switch since it isn't on PC

If the PC port is shit, then see if fan mods fix it.
If not, then get the game on the console that game performs best on.
If game is multiplat, but exclusive to consoles, get it on console that it performs best on.
If it performs similarly between consoles, get it on console that offers the most exclusive bonus content.
If the bonus content is purely cosmetic (skins/costumes), then get it on console that offers the liveliest online scene (if game is multiplayer).
