They tried to be the competition. GC had a fantastic lineup of exclusives but people weren't interested because back then nobody cared if it was stronger then PS2.

My biggest problem with the GC was the shoulder buttons on the controller
You have to actually depress them by about half an inch which meant that if you played for more than a couple hours, your index fingers would really start to hurt

The graphics, aside from xenoblade, were severely lacking compared to other titles on ps2 and xbox. Hell, even some Dreamcast games had better graphics. Aside from that not really much I can pick at. I still have my black gamecube from launch and it works fine, they're pretty bullet proof it seems. The controller is also one of my favorite of all time.

GameCube was a fine system but it had the unfortunat luck to go directly agaisnt the PS2 which is objectively the best system of all time with some of the best games ever made. Gamecube still had a good library though
