They still very clearly want to make money at least for the server upkeep, and we'll still be able to earn a free play or the very rare three every single day on top of it. Not to mention most of the catchers can be beaten piecemeal, there's tons that take five tries but there's also tons where as long as you get the back row that take multiple tries to grab you can then grab the front row at a later date (See: Nikki machines)

It's much more profitable to give you 2 free plays just to get the badge you want into position then make you pay for 5 leaving you with enough left over to tempt you into paying for another 5 after you've lined up another badge

It's 3 free plays a day counting the free one you get from the practice catcher (either from reaching 10 badges or the obligatory final collected badge's double-flip fakeout sympathy bonus)
If you get a super bonus you could even get 5 free plays in a day, or more in exceptional circumstances when you get lucky with a high quantity practice catcher
