This game is spectacular.
>>
>>381770379

I think underwhelming is the word you were looking for.
>>
>>381770749

Elaborate.
>>
>>381770379
I wasn't that impressed. Sure it has some good moments, weirdness and some surprises, but overall gameplay is very dull.

Open world is empty, ugly, uninspired and boring to traverse, and combat is very simple with repetitive enemies. Especially when you need to hack stuff on second playthrough.
>>
>>381770379
Would actually be spectacular if it didn't keep white screen crashing on my computer. Even with all the fixes available for it and the FAR mod that does fuckall about the issue for me.
Really ruins the moments when you beat a boss and the game decides to shit itself.

Honestly contemplating just playing something else until it's actually fixed.
>>
>>381771739

I don't know why I got Platinum if all the enemies were going to be the same clunky and slow machines. Such a waste.
>>
>>381771191

>combat
In the beginning, you're awed by the fluidity and weight of motion, the beautiful weapons and responsive controls. Then you realize the combo variations are non-existent and there's no incentive to ever swap weapons. This ain't no bayonetta.

Also the hacking mini-game gets old super fast. It'd make for fun spice, but half the game relies on it with no alternatives and it stops being fun.

>quests
Mostly the same "kill monster x/fetch item y" galore as any other rpg ever, that makes you feel like a goddamn machine backtracking all the time (the deepest lore). This is pretty bad when questing makes up about 80% of the content in the game and it's a pain in the ass.

>story
You get solid build-up in the two first routes, but the payoff is ultimately rushed and shallow, depending on secondary sources to appear meaningful. And screams of budget issues.

tl;dr The game makes big promises but barely delivers. 72/100
>>
>>381770379

>This game is a solid 7/10

>>
>>381770379

Contrarians, everyone.
They're about as good as each other- but have different strengths and weaknesses. Lest I remind you that Nier is a fuckugly game; people give this game shit but it has great background art direction.
>>

>anyone who disagrees with me is a shitposter

>>381773346
>contrarion

It's called an opinion. Nier had better locations, towns, characters, music, and story in my opinion. Automata feels like a flashy imitation with zero substance. Having the break the 4th wall to delete the saves was weak. Ending credit interactivity was neat, but that's about it.

>>
>>381774297
Not him, but does it matter?

I have GTX 1070 and i7, game still runs like shit with frequent drops to 30-40 frames from 60. The port is horrible.
>>
>>381773087
>First game is miles better.
I always like this type of contrarian shit eaters crawling out from bushes when virtually any game in any franchise gets a second instalment despite the fact it's an objective improvement in many aspects not even touching subjective ones.
>>
>>381772080
It won't actually get fixed. This is how I fixed it or at least all the things I've done to the game.
>Use farmod and turn down the global illumination crap.
>use windowed mode with "borderless gaming" software. Full screen causes everything to be blurry, even the start screen.
And the most important part.
open task manager and under processes tab or whatever, right click nier. Set the core affinity to have every other core disabled.
So if you have a 4 core, disable cores 1 and 3. This is what actually stopped the game from white screening on me, especially during the tutorial. Farmod and borderless gaming just made the game run and look better.

I honestly just refunded my copy and later pirated it once I found out it was cracked. Still had the same issues but at least someone told me about the cores thing.

There's a notorius white screen crash happening when you play for a little while, AMD fixed it with new drivers so the remaining people having this problem are most likely to own an old nvidia card.

I was going to buy this game because the lead female was a bad ass Android. But then all people associated her with is her ass so it really ruined her character. Not to say it wasn't inevitable and not that I don't like the porn but did it have to happen so soon before I got to develop my love for the characters existence other than just 2Booty?
>>
>>381775156
I have a GTX1070 and tried FAR, game still keeps crashing after like 15-20 minutes of playtime.
>>
>>381775608
>All it improves is visuals and combat
And also the narrative structure as route C is an actual new content and ending E is actually in the fucking game and not in side materials.
And also the OST as it combines 5-6 arrangements of the tracks from the first game with a huge variety of top-quality new ones.
And it also ties up all major themes of franchise and leads them to a logical conclusion.
And also gives all main characters depths instead of just Kaine.
Both Nier games are great but saying that first one is miles better is just a sign of enormous shit eating contrarianism.

Yeah, this. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but I've is not MILES better than the other.

Honestly my only beef with A is the map, and the enemies being boring fodder to androids that can move a million miles an hour. Nier was annoying as you had to play half of it like 5 times. Nier A letting you choose chapters is so much better.

I felt like you when I first played the game. I beat route A and quit playing for a while because I didn't want to play as 9S. Keep going, 9S is still fun to play as, and when shit goes tits up and 9S realizes they are fighting an unwinnable war and he's a disposable hero with no hope, shit gets crazy.

9S is the most psychotic murdering nihilistic monster in the third act, so much so you'll almost forget he started off as a cutesy "ma'am" saying boy toy. This story really throws a lot of emotional punches at 9S and you have to see it for yourself.

If you ever replay the game, you will see Route A in a completely different light after learning more about 9S. 2B is an interesting character and has a couple more fun combos, but 9S story is just balls to the wall crazy. What an unhinged killing machine.

I'm so dogshit at bosses, and I fucking hate it. Why do they respawn you with all of your items used up? Why do they make you fucking corpse run when picking up your chips renders you vulnerable for X seconds?
The "right" move if you die to a boss is to just Alt + F4 and run back, which is tedious as fuck.
>>
>>381788119

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Personally I found it quite amusing and simultaneously awful that the plucky, cheerful character is harboring the most hatred deep inside.

Maybe I haven't played enough story driven games, as I usually play Metroid and other similar silent protagonist, exploration heavy games, so I didn't find Automata as cliche as some other people do. It reminded me of the wackiest animes where you just sit back, dont ask questions and get lost in a strange world. I also found the gameplay to be fun which made unraveling more of the wacky anime plot to be enjoyable to me. Nier:A certainly has its weak points like reuse of enemies and areas due to low budget, but overall I found it to be quite the ride. A video game that isn't afraid to be a video game, and tell the story it wants in a creative and fun way.

Dunno how someone can find that boring, from the point in which he enters in the last tower it was basically a trip in hell, A2 reveling that he already knew what was going on basically meant that he went through that crazy shit many other times. Couldn't even blame him for basically being the final boss that killed A2 and almost ruined everything .

>>
>>381788847

Are you playing on Hard?

If you are, I recommend speccing lifesteal chips and melee defense against bosses. Staying at full HP so you don't get OHKO is vital.

If a boss hands your ass to you too many times, don't be ashamed to turn it down to Normal to get by. The bosses have patterns to their attacks that are easy to dodge when you have learned them, but going into a boss on Hard blind, you will probably die a few times.

If you think this game is bullshit, never try Dark Souls. Now there is a game where they will make you replay 20 minutes of gameplay to get back to the boss who kills you in one hit. Fuck.

I've beaten Dark Souls at SL 1. The way Nier does it is just a little more tedious, with the game sapping away at your items and basically forcing you to retrieve your body.

I like the game, but the design is a little grating. Especially when you have to sit through the "story" components every single time.
>>
It's servicable but fluid gameplay. Importantly it's satisfying. Not every game needs to have the depth and breadth of combat of a Bayonetta or Dark Souls (lit git gud braise le sun xD)

People liked it for the sheer surreality of the world and the story.

I was born in 1990, does that make me a millennial?

Some of the bosses in this game are bullshit on Hard if it is your first time playing, lets be honest. Eve in particular can OHKO you with many of his attacks and its so hard to see with the sandstorm going that a first time player is going to get hit.

I grew up playing Nintendo hard games, don't try and play the age card on me. Fact is there are a couple boss fights in this game that will frustrate new players if they get killed in one hit over and over.
>>

Gameplay was pretty fun, art direction was interesting.

I'm honestly not sure why people love the story so much though. I've played Drakengard and the first Nier, and it still just felt like the story in this one was just a vehicle for the gameplay. I had a hard time connecting to the characters and didn't really feel anything in regards to their romance.

Still an excellent game, but I do think it's becoming a bit overrated

It's excellent, just not for the reasons people say it is. They act like it's story defies the medium and redefines video game storytelling when it's really just another vague, disjointed Taro game. There is nothing revolutionary about the storytelling in this game.

I'd love for them to give 3 some gameplay polish.

I really liked how the weapon swapping worked it's just that everything thing else about it was a dumpster fire.

I also feel that D3 was the least played by all people (especially to completion), and it being the one to have a super blatant connection to Nier and Automata stuff (Accord) makes me think more people should have the opportunity to play it.

Honestly I think that game turned a lot of people off within the first 2 hours. I love Taro and his games, but Drakengard 3 is fucking annoying for the first 2 hours. It's nothing but non-stop shitty forced puns about dicks, balls, sex, boobs, gore, ect. Not to mention the plot makes little sense and the gameplay isn't great.

Once you get to the part where she turns the disciples back into their original forms, the story really starts to pick up. I thought the stuff with Accord was absolutely fascinating, the way she seems to be puppeteer everything on behalf of some mysterious organization to ensure the best possible outcome.

Oh shit, that's pretty cool.

I have something like that of my own, where either Taro is pretty smart about some shit or just REALLY good/lucky about pulling shit out of his ass.

One of the first things Weiss says is "blood is sound, sounds are words, and words are power" which not only plays into all of the stat-alterning words you can find in Nier (while sucking up the BLOOD of shades, which makes a sound like garbled words), but also the blood=Intoner magic=singing stuff in D3.

>>381796940

I liked it, but I'm also the sort who thinks a lot of j/rpgs have failed to include what is essentially meaningless party banter, which I consider something necessary for me to get into the not-gameplay parts of a game.

But I see your point and do agree. Plus the whole "getting to ending A and thinking it's over" thing that has put people off his games before.

I think It's a really unconventional story for vidya standards and many people saw it from point of views because of that.
For example there is no hero journey, actually the is no hero at all, the only character who got an actual heroic role got it in a not canon ending, or how the the edge isn't the actual edge of twisted personalities, it's sheer desperation of feeling completely lost, empty, and meaningless. The actual character driven contents got put in the side events and materials, leaving in the game only hints and the direct solution of what was going on, causing this kind >>381794939 of reaction.
It starts from "the world is tumbling down but the glory of mankind is still alive and will save it from the warmongering aliens thanks to its glorious proxy", but the truth is that the world already tumbled down, leaving an oppressive, melancholy vibe. The actual story uses induvidel chracters and existences but use them to talk a lot about the 2 races, androids and machines, sad children without any parents, the abandoned scraps of humanity and of an alien race, and what are are able and unable to do about and in a world that tumbled down. Most of the twists of the story were related to that (like the fact that machines can't learn, which has a fuckton of implication), the fact the overwhelming majority of the people who bitch about the story only talk about the lack of character driven shows that they didn't pay attention to the rest. But even in the final 9S Vs A2 confrontation there were lines like "even if I know the truth I still long for humanity", and the whole ending D was about the conclusion of the sci-fi plot, with 9S that curses the YoHRa androids existence and and new hope for a new kind of evolution in another planet gave by a being that is made by both the craps of both race.

cont.

Then ending E masterfully put together everything, themes, sci-fi, personal drama.
What we saw was the utter failure of both races, androids and machines, and the complete victory of the being who is both a machine and the ghost of humanity but at the same time doesn't actually belong to either. But that failure led to another kind of evolution, of a "race" that wasn't even taken into consideration by anyone, the evolution of two little observers who were being fed by the same events the played watched, the implications there go both into the plot and full meta, which was masterfully used for the final "boss".
It was thanks to those failures the YoHRa android race that "doesn't deserve to be loved by this world" got a second chance.

It's interesting to note that if you count side materials into discussion, it was Number 9 who gave N2 direct access to all android data via backdoor which in result massively kickstarted N2 evolution and allowed it to evolve to a point it took off the planet. It's a failure in his way of thinking (as he still considered machines to be untermensch compared to androids, unable to learn and evolve) which in the end surprisingly gave the setting a second chance with a fairly peaceful next 500 years.

To add one last thing, you >>381791349 said that you liked the the side-quest stories, but most of the interesting ones were complementary with the main plot in the sense that they were there to characterize the two races instead of strictly telling stories about individual characters (the fact that they are nameless also helps that), like the 2 stories about suicidal machines and the ones about the machines or the ones about the memory deletion fuckery of the androids, for example.
I seriously think that you should replay the game looking at the story from the point of view I tried to explain, I believe that if you liked the side quests' stories the main story told by this game is definitely your cup of tea.
For the character driven materials, part of the ones that weren't put in the game and were used for other events can be found here

I kind of liked the idea of Mikhail, being a young innocent child forced into be a war machine.

But the piss jokes, slapstick humor, and way that he never calls out Zero on any of her shit kind of ruined him for me.

Made me miss Angelus's intelligent cynicism.

Caim really liked his job. But he did have standards in regards to whom he was mass murdering.
>>
I have a lot of questions about mainly the machines.

1. How was Adam conceived and then how was Eve conceived afterwards?
2. Is there an explanation for why Eve turns back in appearance?
3. How come there's such a discrepancy in machine design? You have machines like Stubbies and Bipeds, Goliath Bipeds, and even Engels that have this rugged, industrial appearance, but then you have machines like the Boku-Shi and Grun that look straight up Alien.
>>
>>381815301
nothing personal...... kid
>>
>>381817594
>>381818098
He killed kids that were FORCED into service or else they'd probably be killed. When they begged for their lives and tried to get away, Caim slaughtered them all. If standards mean, "Kill literally anyone who has any affiliation with the empire," then yes.
>>
>>381818137
>1. How was Adam conceived and then how was Eve conceived afterwards?
Machines were analysing broken androids you can find near their birthplace and produced most humalike machines possible by assembling a mini-factory by linking to each other as inside they are very complicated beings.
Eve's birth is just a religious throwbacks as machiens were re-enacting Bible.
>2. Is there an explanation for why Eve turns back in appearance?
They found the info about Watchers and Legion, his tattoo is attempt to copy them.
>3. How come there's such a discrepancy in machine design? You have machines like Stubbies and Bipeds, Goliath Bipeds, and even Engels that have this rugged, industrial appearance, but then you have machines like the Boku-Shi and Grun that look straight up Alien.
All the most alien machines are the strongest ones. They are big guns only brought in case machine network decides to be serious for a change. Stubbies and other simple robots are designed to be weak so they wouldn't wipe out the androids completely.

Besides, all -Shi bots are related to major hubs of machine network as Eve emerges from Boku-Shi which means it was something akin to his guardian and So-Shi/Ro-Shi are the final line of Tower defence and most likely hubs of Terminal Alpha/Beta aka N2.

>How was Adam conceived
This cannot continue. i.e. the endless conflict with the androids.

So the machines basically melded together to form a miniature molten factory, emulating humanity at the apex of their evolution to create the most advanced form they could muster in a supposed attempt to fight back.

> Is there an explanation for why Eve turns back in appearance?
The reason Eve has a spreading tattoo of the cult of the Watchers is kind of left up in the air. Adam apparently had him get it to emulate an important symbol from humanity's past, but the only one who had access to the world that the cult symbol came from is Accord.

So she might have brought information over from Drakengard's world and the machine network absorbed it at some point while learning about humanity.

>How come there's such a discrepancy in machine design?
Different machines subjected to different elements of evolution and/or being developed for different purposes.

That was kind of a kill or be killed scenario. When Leonard tried to show a child soldier mercy it turned out he was already possessed by demons and/or Watcher magic.

Though there are several instances where it's implied that Caim keeps fighting and pursuing the enemy beyond what's necessary.

>>
>>381819696
They literally do defend themselves. Obviously one medium biped can be a punching bag, like how any one enemy in an action game can be a punching bag. That webm is just trying to demonstrate potential combos. In encounters with multiple enemies you have literally flurries of bullets being hurled at you, forcing you to carefully consider your movement, andd enemies of different varieties attacking you from every direction. Some have shields to block your ranged attacks, some use EMP aoe attacks to discourage you from attacking head on etc. The game constantly encourages you to change playstyles and play stylishly.

>How come there's such a discrepancy in machine design?

Because there was.
I'm not fully up to date on nier lore but I imagine Grun was of alien decent. Stubbies & etc I guess were machine network built using 'human' factories.
The -shi's origins are a bit more interesting if it has relations to the novella 'The Flame of Prometheus' in which Beepy journey's out of the junk heap mountain had him adding and replacing machine parts to his body. By the time he, and other machines he had converted, reached the surface they were all spherical as it was deemed the most optimal form.
>>
>>381819683
So/Boku probably belong to Adam/Eve as their primary designation is being a big machine network hub.
Ko/Ro are obviously Red Girls. Also suits the whole theme of internal conflict within network when they start fighting as one wants to destroy androids and another to keep them alive, and balls are white/black.
