Exactly what I was getting at. The fact there are only 8 team members in the entire game anyways (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, and a Rabbid version of each) really dampens things as well. I'm sure they each have at least one unique ability, it not a handful, so you can sort of view each one as a different 'class'. Still feels weak though.
