It's not bad, but it's not quite amazing either. I feel like the town building aspect isn't as expansive as it could be, and same for the exploration/dungeons. The overworld map lacks anything interesting, while the dungeons aren't nearly as good as the Zelda games that they're inspired from. Rune Factory is a kind of Adventure/Farming Sim hybrid. This game is more of an Adventure/Town Management hybrid. Rather than farm, you're managing shops in your home oasis. When you're not doing that, you're out in the world fighting shit, gathering shit, and exploring dungeons.

The combat is shallow and boring, the rpg elements are barely there, item crafting and base building are dull, the writing and story are nothing to write home about.

Game is pretty fun. Just finished the second dungeon and boss battle.

Only real complaint is that leveling doesn't really feel like it does too much and you don't really get a good sense of progression with your equipment.

The oasis building stuff is pretty neat though. I like how you can start automating everything you really don't feel like doing.
Also, why is there still almost no Esna lewds?

Not really, the game is pretty straight forward though the first few hours are basically a tutorial.
Don't rely on the AI, it's ok but really you'll be the one doing most of the damage and kills. Learn to dodge and you'll never die. The lock on can be buggy at times.
Farm everything you can.
Make sure to set up your shops next to the right decorations to get the most dosh.
Don't worry about always having the right party when you go into a dungeon, you'll get a warp spell early on that will allow you to go back to the oasis and swap members and warp back to where you were with no progress lost. Plus any puzzles you solve stay solved.
Upgrade the oasis when you can and just stay on top of making the best weapon. You'll get accessories in chests all over so don't worry about crafting them.

Also if you just focus on the main story quests you'll blow right through the game. Take the time to do any side quest that pops up first and upgrade your shops when you can.

I give it a 6/10. Not bad to kill time with, but makes me wish there was more when all is said and done.

Not really, I have bought every single nintendo portable , even multiple times with GBA (SP's light was a blessing), and they even have better IPs than Nintendo's homeconsoles if you're not a Mario&family (yoshi, kirby, toad, etc) fan, with games like golden sun, advance wars, fire emblem, actually good and consistent 3rd party support, etc. But playing games at 240p in 2017 just kills my eyes, for comparison that's less than a 2004's PSP from 1 gen before the 3DS. Even my crappy cheap chinese no-brand phone which was given for free more than half a decade ago by signing a 2 year contract with Vodafone (or would otherwise cost 50€) has a much better screen.
I'm not a graphics or performance whore at all, but this crosses the line.

You really don't need to look hard or far at all, pic related are some of the games released this past quarter alone. From this I can spot GravityRush (1+2) which I'm sure you'd enjoy if you're a Nintendo guy, Persona5 is one of the best Atlus games, NioH if you want more Souls-like games, Nier Automata, GuiltyGearXrd Rev2 and Tekken7 if you don't have a gaming PC. DragonQuestBuilders and World of Final Fantasy are both very comfy games released in Q4 2016. More recently than this pic you have WipeOut Omega Collection if you want a fast future racer, or the Crash remakes coming out this week (I think).
There are more I'm not mentioning and I don't know your tastes, but there's something for everyone right now.

Yeah, I feel the other guy. Even if there are titles on the 3DS which I would like to try out, PS4 is just really good nowadays. Persona 5, Nier Automata (even though game wise it's shit, but it's a strong emotional experience and a game I can hardly compare to anything, it's a rare gem basically), Gravity Rush just to name a few.

I'm really struggling if I should get a PS4 game next time or something for the 3DS. I would like to try out The Witch and the Hundred Knight, maybe Bloodborne, GR2, but I'm also interested in this game and Bravely Default.

Just check out PS4 gen's recommendation list on /vg/. They have a solid list and can direct you to the good direction.

You mean their western* devs, which as far as I'm aware they aren't forcing, NaughtyDog have complete creative control for example, they act more like a 2nd party (uncharted might be a safe game now, but back then it was just seen as a crappy TombRaider clone), same for Guerilla's Horizon, it was the team that planned it out and fused ideas for that new IP. Same for QuanticDream, they pretty much always made movie-QTE-games.

It just so happens that all of Sony's western 1st parties have shit tastes.

As for Sony's japanese side I don't see where this "mature games" criticism is coming from. For example how is GravityRush2 not a fun action-adventure platformer, whose first entry didn't sell that well. How is it a mature game? I could easily see it as a Nintendo new IP, erect nipples and sexual innuendo aside.

Sony's also remastering two of the games you mentioned, alongside Parapa, Wipeout and Crash. Sure they are not actual sequels but they're not completely forgotten either. It's not like a company can constantly work on all of its lifetime IPs while creating new ones, especially niche ones like those you mentioned. It comes to a point where you'd have to release the same 50 IPs every generation. Not really possible.

The genders are pretty ambiguous for the other races (are there even any male ass lizards or female bunnies?), but your mc can be either male or female and there are plenty of female "seedlings". Gender doesn't really play any role in this game, I imagine all the responses are identical.
