Why do Steam games cost so much?

COD's pricing just defies all normal logic. Which is a shame since I wanted to actually buy COD this sale to play Zombies mode with my gf online. Fuck these prices though. I ussually pirate COD games but you can't play zombies online with a pirated copy anymore.
