I REALLY miss the old days of UT2004 having a lot of players just all mixed together with most game modes being plenty populated. I'd spend hours in different servers as they'd have big map rotations.

The new Quake is alright but there are barely any maps, only deathmatch is any fun (TDM is just stack vs solos, Duel simply isn't as good as classic duel and is over before you know it, sacrifice is just shit) and it takes forever to get a fucking match going.

It's funny how the technology improves while the experience gets worse.

Unless they have 2 Sentries, and then the blame goes not on the map but on Engineer himself, since he's too weak on offense and too strong on defense, and as soon as you get multiple sentries ANY last point becomes broken.

That's a big if, there's always a shitload of engineers on upward last and there's no easy way to deal with them. This is why upward last is fucking terrible. Badwater does not have this problem.

Other maps don't have these issues, making flanks this narrow is bad design no matter what map you're on. If I wanted to play a map with chokes everywhere I'd play dustbowl.

But no its all locked away and we only get official map DLC and nothing truly unique or interesting anymore, the power of map making is now exclusive to the devs only and its like that in a lot of multiplayer games now, which is probably contributing to a lack of talented map makers and level designers for the future of the industry I bet, since so many get their start making maps for fun for games they enjoy.
