VC1 is better than VC2 and VC2 is a direct sequel to VC1. You'd be stupid to skip it.

The only game you can just jump into would be VC3 because it takes place alongside the events of the first game and only makes references to it.

Honestly I think it will be alright. Its kind of in the shadow of the first game because that's the one a lot of people liked.
