Let's talk .hack, /v/.
>>
>>381719443
I think I'm out of things to say with all the threads we've had.

Obligatory Alkaid is best girl post.
>>
>>381719443
Am I good with playing just the remakes or do I have to play them from the first hack?
>>
>>381719660
You gotta watch all the animes while playing .hack infection/outbreak/mutation/quarantine then you can play the remaster ok
>>
>>381719660
While it might be a good idea to see SIGN and play the first four games to get some things and see the beginning of the franchise, G.U. can be played without seeing the older series or playing the OG quadrilogy.

So last night I had a nightmare where the form change was purely cosmetic and the sword Haseo was using was just a stylish new edge punisher weapon and I woke up screaming.

Good afternoon, this is Ohm Rice!

About fucking time, the .hack games are probably one of the few series that actually needed a collection/ remaster.

And as someone who owned the first set of games but not the g.u. set this is an extremely nice surprise.

Consider this day one for me, you have my thanks op.

It's Ohm Rice.

I'm glad so many people are getting back into .hack//
>>
>>381719443
out of all the threads we've had, no one brought up something really special this remaster is pushing forward
>Cyber Connect 2
>JRPG
we've come a long way ever since this came out on PS2 and the studio got a ton of experience thanks to the Naruto franchise, Asura's Wrath and whatever else. If they ever get their hands on another project like this, we could have a top tier animu jrpg that will blow the Tales series out of the water
>>
>>381719443
That looks pretty good. It honestly looks better than P5 in some screenshots (particularly the cutscenes).
>>
>>381722010
I wonder if there are new cutscenes. Obviously Haseo will get one showing off his new form like the previous ones, but it'll be surprising to see them compared to their old work, they keep improving their cutscene work a lot.
>>
Time to bitch!

>Cheat mode.
>Retry every time you die in a fight.
>Attack Power Increased.
>More EXP per fight.
None of those were issues and will make the game far too easy, especially if you're going to grind for the book of 1000 anyway, you'll have to put it off as long as possible to avoid being too strong.
>A stun gauge has been added above the enemy in Avatar Battles.
This only annoys me because I loved how simplistic and UI-free avatar battles were. Adding gauges to it just feels like a nuisance.

The rest are improvements, but the above has me worried the game will be easier. It was already a very easy game.
>>
downloading infection right now, i never got the chance to try these games out back then and the remaster is making me curious about it
wish me luck
>>
The new form is from a KH-esque gameplay tease where you play Haseo beta testing the setting for the next game since R:2 gets shut down a year or so after the events of GU.
>>
>>381723172
Don't be too hard on it. The gameplay and the graphics haven't aged well at all. Also watch Sign first, it really enhances the experience tenfold.

I get that the Azure Knights were a rushjob, but was it really necessary to add all those stitches to their designs? I'm pretty sure Aura would hagve had a little more time to work out the other issues if she weren't so meticulous about something like that. Also, did she just forget what Kite's hat crest looked like? And she sure had enough time to add a bunch of belts where there weren't any before.
>>
I finished Infection over 10 years ago. The only thing I remember is Mistral. Is it worth looking and playing the other three games?
>>
>>381724771
Maybe Aura was really into zombie apocalypse texts at the time.
>>
>>381724952
They're all pretty much just exactly the same game. Though bear in mind that they're all fairly uncommon and quite expensive on eBay these days, and even moreso in PAL territories.

I wonder how much profit Bandai made at the time by separating 1 80-ish hour RPG into 4 20 hour ones.
>>
>>381723643
HE LITERALLY DID EVERYTHING WRONG
>>
>>381725024
>>381724771
Even despite all that, though, you can really tell that Aura put the most amount of care into Kite. Unlike Balmung and Orca, Kite doesn't have black patches that are obviously incomplete graphics. Kite's weapons are also the most meticulously designed, compared to the cheap-looking thornsticks that the other two are using.

It's as if she originally just planned on making Kite, but then decided that it'd be cooler if Kite had a pair of lackeys fighting for him. God forbid she use that slut BlackRose, though.
>>
>>381725294
>God forbid she use that slut BlackRose, though.
She's a jealous goddess.
>>
>>381723472
One can only hope. This is actually shaping up to be a pretty great generation if your into JRPGs. Westaboos BTFO
>>
So i was checking online, are there undub versions of IMOQ or did they have dual audio?
>>
>>381725623
Obsessed too. How many Kites have there been so far? And almost all of them were her doing. Except the one from Link who was technically from the Tower of Akasha, which is basically a record of literally everyone and everything in The World from the moment it first launched.

>>381726727
They had dual audio. The original Japanese version had two audio tracks, the regular Japanese and a parody mode that's unlocked once you beat it. For the English localization, they removed the parody mode and replaced it with an English track.
>>

No, //Trilogy is the G.U. games condensing the 120+ hour plot into 2 hours.
It's pretty to look at because CyberConnect2 does a fantastic job with cutscenes (asura's wrath, naruto games) but unless you want to get all the important parts spoiled don't bother.

The games are good.

The anime suck, with the exception of //Sign which is just very, very slow.
>>
I have been waiting for a new .hack for years and years, but all I get is remastered GU.

I'm disappointed, really. My only wish for the games is that they keep the RENGEKI sound from the first game for the the other two. For some reason it got worse with each installment.

>>
>>381727880
You could. Just go to options and switch to Japanese audio. Poof, complete Japanese voiceovers.

Like I said, the original games always had dual audio, even in Japan. When they brought the game overseas, they simply replaced the second track with English audio.
>>
>>381719641
I'm pretty sure the goal of these threads is to get as many people to replay the old series as possible. Get on it anon.

It's a little more complex than that when you consider who's behind it all for someone who has no knowledge of the series. To the point where he might as well just play the games if he's that curious.
>>
>>381727103
Because the G.U. games are more readily accessible and just needed a tune up, whereas the og gameplay would not be very well received nowadays. IMOQ would have to be remade from the ground up and Bamco aren't going to flip the bill for something like that. We're still surprised that this is even a thing. We might have a chance if this does well.

If you played the games, there's no harm watching it all at once, you can understand the references being made between each other. If not, you can watch each ep after each part.

Important thing to note is that the show references areas that you can go to and get neat loot at the end of the dungeon.

It also has hidden keywords with unique items at the end of the areas spread throughout the episodes.

I dealt with them turning it into a shitty mobile game that failed, this will fail too, they're already producing more anime and mangas, the series won't disappear unless those fail too.
>>
>>381735012
It's fine really

IMOQ was pretty mediocre and judging by their recent track record I highly doubt they'd be able to make any new games that are good

G.U. was the best they had in them, so really a remaster is the equivalent to a greatest hits album for them
>>
>>381734897
How about the neck guard thing? Wouldn't that be extremely uncomfortable to be knocked on your back with?
I, for one, welcome our new form Haseo.
>>
>>381734674
If they had the budget and time I'm sure they would have made IMOQ first. However this is the 15th anniversary of the franchise and the last thing they produced for it was 2 shitty mobile games and a movie. If they want to revive the series this is the safest bet, a game series with a self-contained story that uses a lore that old fans love and new fans will want to know more about. If they went with IMOQ they'd have to completely redo the combat system which might turn off old fans, and the story itself might be harder for new fans to get into.

Better to use the cheaper to adapt G.U. Series to test the waters and then remaster IMOQ if it does well instead of putting all their eggs into a remaster of IMOQ that old fans may not enjoy.

Yeah. If Kite were the one asking for help, she probably would have come out of retirement completely and wiped out Cubia in an instant. Fundamentally, both the eight Avatars and Cubia are derivative of Morgana's power. Since Aura is on a higher tier than Morgana, she should have been able to deal with the whole thing easily.

They used identical templates. It seems that R:1 had a somewhat limited number of templates, so it wasn't completely unusual for there to be similar looking PCs. Mind you, based on how characters reacted to these situations, it doesn't seem to be that common, but it did happen.

>Mimiru & BlackRose
>Orca & Bear
>Sora & Moonstone
>Kaotin, Subaru, Terajima Ryoko
>Sora & Moonstone
>Crim & Usagimaru Nuke
>A-20 & Natsume
>Tsukasa & Elk

Incidentally, in the case of Mireille from .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, she's actually using the exact same character as Mistral. She just changed the name through an event.

In R:2, there's also the obvious Shino & Atoli. Ender, one of Pi's alternate PCs, is also very similar to Bordeaux.

sign first is heavily recommended. It was the first entry in the series and tonally assists greatly with everything else, and figuring shit out in the games.

Generally though, yeah. If you really want to skip sign it's not required or anything, just, you get a lot more out of the games if you watch sign. As for the other stuff, it's all pretty much watch at your leisure, or not at all.

>>381738673
Not too long, really. They're all pretty short, the longest bits are sidequests, exploring random areas and dungeons, and doing stuff you find on the message board (like time trials and whatnot)
>>
>>381738673
The games are pretty short. Like 10-15 hour each, they split it in 4 because of the keywords gimmick.

Its funny, Destiny has been datamined for like a year and a half, and then Bungie got tired of everything coming out as soon as the content update hit the servers, so now they encode items they want to kept secret and data miners couldn't get it.

Data mining explores open or cracked files, its a process like any other, not a magic wand. If the dev doesn't want a game data mined they can prevent it quite easily.

Its just seed based procedural generation.

That's what the keyword system is. The system procedurally generates zones. But it generates the blueprint for the zone from the keyword input. So the same three keywords will always produce the same zone.

You guys are aware this is already how the PS2 games do it, and the zones weren't actually saved on the disc or anything, right?
>>
>>381739851
encryption only works so long as people can't get past it though, tons of games have encryption on their data and it's still decrypted and laid out. Like, you know, every single MMO out there, from WoW to maplestory to runescape.

I admit I haven't played a huge number of MMOs, but challenging content in them seems to be about specializing your character to be the very best at one specific role. I feel that Adept Rogue would be popular to casuals and low levels but nobody in deep enough to care about performance would main one, because they can't excel at any single class role. Haseo is only overpowered because he's who the player controls.

If I remember right, you canonically gain experience for killing other players (or even steal a level from the player you murder, I can't remember which.) I seem to recall either in the anime or the games some PKs talking about killing some players to make up for what they lost when Haseo killed them.

I mean, canonically a bunch of special events happen all the time and you can get shit that's totally unique. I mean, if you watched a dude use an attack you'd never seen before in a tournament that is legitimately broadcasted and watched by thousands of people and the admin doesn't come right the fuck down on him for blatant cheating, then it must be legit.

Like, in Legend of the Twilight Ouka legit has a unique class, it's actually not totally unheard of.

http://prizesworld.com/prizes/lightnovel/dgek.htm
the creator of SAO, kawahara, stated he "wanted to participate with SAO in the 2002 dengeki game novel" but "it was too long". So instead of uploading it in, you know, january after submissions closed, he waited till may (a month after //sign began airing) to begin uploading it. The first chapter (freely available translated if you look for it, I don't have it on hand cause the site I read it on originally shut down years ago) barely details or outlines anything, it's basically setup for kirito's abduction into the game. As time went on, he released more to the webnovel, eventually, after //sign had aired, and infection had been released, getting to a point where it was blatantly knocking off character archetypes. Orca/bear became agil, balmung became klein,

It originally had little to no elements of playerkilling, but you know what came out that had lots of that as a central theme? Well, you can figure it out.

I'd like to point out that the series actually went fucking nowhere because no one wanted such a blatant .hack ripoff on their shelves, and no one wanted to draw it out so he couldn't find an artist to compliment his autismo maximo writing.

It wasn't until he wrote accel world, an actually fairly unique twist on .hack that he got his work anywhere, which, by the way, he won that original contest he said he "wanted to submit SAO to". Whether they just took it because he had it written out, or it was a condition of his joining the brand, dengeki published SAO alongside accel world.

Why are they making the game easier, I don't understand. It wasn't hard to begin with.

Also, why not remaster the first 4 games as well? IMO, those are the best in the series. Yes, both games are clunky but I loved the charm of the first.

I'm happy it's being made, but holy fuck is a little to late. MAKE THE ORIGINAL GAMES AS WELL!
>>
>>381750435
If GU sells well we'll get more GU. It makes no sense to give GU a remaster over IMOQ given the latter was vastly more popular, they're doing it because it'll be easier to remaster GU since it was a late era PS2 title while IMOQ would need a complete remake which CC2 don't have the time and resources to get done at the moment.
