I've only heard of people using them to play party games. Are there any benefits to using a projector vs a normal TV/monitor? Visuals have to suffer.

I haven't noticed any issues with visuals on mine. I think back in the day there may have been issues but I seriously can't see any problems. It is a nice experience for movies and games all around.

Let me know if/when projectors can project at 120+hz/fps.

image quality is top notch if you dont buy a shitty projector, mine is full HD and has decent black levels. and most decent projectors can actually be used with ligths on and still look great.

Setups with projectors look cool but I prefer picture quality and colors to impressive looking setup.

Sure the quality is not that bad and if you are willing to invest lot of money you get quite good results but it still pales in comparison to even low/mid tier TVs.

I'd rather play PS1 on a properly set HDTV than the latest most graphicaly intensive AAA on a projector.

Are they 60hz what Ms of input lag?
Can you downsample like you can with a monitor?

yes, mine can do 120hz 3D but 2D is limited to 60Hz, the display lag varies between brands and models but mine has 16MS.

Epsonfag here, yeah mine also is 60hz but the input lag is a little high but that doesn't mean I can't play the games. Mario Kart is fucking awesome on this (Zelda too for that matter), Big Picture is pretty convenient for the projector too. When it comes time for shooters I just switch back to my monitor anyway. Kind of nice having a choice.

A friend's brother has this fucking 1000 dollar projector and we played For Honor and Xrd on it. This was months ago.

It was fucking incredible. He had this massive fucking blacked out wall that stretched to the second floor. And the picture's really clear too, the input lag wasn't too bad as well. Definitely not for me though, don't have the space for it.
