Analog. It does, but the travel distance is not as large as a ps4 or ps3 controller. You don't have quite as much control because of that, but it should be usable. I used it when I was playing Dirt Rally and it did ok, but I eventually switch to dual shock 4.

Analog = more than just a state of 0/1, basically. A Dpad is "digital" because it only ever tells the game two things: "on" or "off" aka if the button is held down or not.

The L and R triggers on the Wii U gamepad are digital. Again it means you can either press it in or not, so it doesn't matter how far down you go, on is on.

Analog sticks have a lot of different values they can send based on how far forward it goes. Analog triggers send different values based on how far down it is held.

The Steam Controller has analog triggers that can make a second, digital input by clicking on the way down on them, similar to the Gamecube Controller.
