Actually, I'm replaying through it right now and I'm finding it actually only coming together with that point. To be honest, basically everything leading up to it is pretty awful. Freeside is some fun, I guess. But the road up there is tedious at best. Very linear following the breadcrumbs while being arbitrarily stopped by being send to some of the least interesting missions and quests in the game (Prim, fucking Fly With Me etc...)
I understand it's all a pretty necessary part of the buildup and it makes the later part of the game all the more satisfying, but still... It's definitely not the high point of the game.

Once you finally reach Freeside and Stip, that is where you start feel like you have an actual agency of your own, start running into quests that require more interesting problem-solving and things just to start falling into places.

they really needed to improve the reputation system. you can kill someone from 500 yards away and you'll lose reputation with their faction if you were using an un-suppressed weapon. even if you shoot them in the back of their head and it kills them instantly.

Frankly, I'm pretty used to this shit and I still found modding F:NV an absolute bitch. I managed to get about 25 mods running, thankfully most of the content, ballance and bug-fixing ones, but another 25 I had to give up on because... fuck if I know why. Basically all graphical mods flat-out refused to work.
The whole thing is a pain in the ass. I will NEVER understand why there isn't any push for creation of actual fucking unified mod-sets. This way it's an absolute clusterfuck of people who largely refuse to cooperate with each other, throw tantrums if one includes their work with large mod sets, and there are little to no unified platforms.
If I compare this to say, the Kerbal or Factorio modding communities, it's a nightmare. Though I don't know how much is an issue of the community, and how much as at fault of the tools they have.

But seeing this absolute clusterfuck makes me actually wonder if the idea of a CreationClub isn't maybe the right step in the right direction. Shame that I don't see Bethesda ever releasing a game that would be worth modding any time soon.

My biggest problem with fallout and elder scrolls is the lack of people in them the world's feel empty in a way that would never really happen. I get fallout is supposed to be post apocalypse but there aren't enough people. The games need like 3 or 4 times the number of NPCs but unfortunately Bethesda shit engine can't support it.
