I bought the parts and put it together

About $500 almost 7 years ago.
Most people here have older builds so they cut the costs down by a lot. For an initial build you want at least 600
Course you could go lower and get something like the consoles but the cpu wouldn't be as good meaning you'd spend more long run

For starters who want upgradability I'd suggest this
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/y4RkZ8
Unfortunately, cryptocurrency miners are on ethereum and so video card prices shot up. All the rx 570s are sold out because of them as well.
If you wanna make it 600 bucks and like near a microcenter you could pick this one up
http://www.microcenter.com/product/479279/Radeon_RX_580_Overclocked_8GB_GDDR5_Video_Card
Then just get a ryzen 1400 while you're there since it gives you 50 dollars off an AM4 motherboard the cheapest one coming out around 10 bucks which is the same one in that list.
With those savings it's around 600 dollars.

havent had a gaming computer ever so
Also, who buys prebuilt desktops in 2017?
1100. started making it mid-2013 and got all the parts by december. gtx 770, i7 3770, 8gb of ddr3, 1tb hdd, and 650w psu (i only needed a 500w one but i didn't know if id need more for expansions), wireless adapter (only use this for printing), dvd drive, mobo costed 100 bucks, case was 50 on clearance and came with a front intake fan, 2 case fans (recently added 2 more and added some old HDD's i found in storage). i can run nu-doom at mostly high settings with 50-90 fps depending on the level and how i tweak the settings at 1080p. i would like to put an after market cooler on my cpu, and get a bluetooth adapter, and a drive bay expansion with card readers, and audio jacks (my front panel one broke so i use a usb adapter atm). i see no reason to upgrade or build a new rig for the time being. give it a year and i might buy a new gfx card but i won't make a new build until i feel like making the jump to 1440p

fuck yea microcenter
just got a 1600 anda msi x370 carbon pro from there
>>381708147
If you live near a microcenter, they usually have good pre builts when they are on sale.
>>381705984
Also microcenter pricematches newegg and amazon so if you find something cheaper there they can lower it including rebates

Only the dumbest of teens with mom'n'pops credit
But they soon learn every prebuilt is shit and never do it again when they have to pay for it themselves.
