Has the rise of abundant guides and easier access to content ruined games? My thoughts keep returning to vanilla WoW and I've arrived at the conclusion the game was such a magical adventure because no one knew what they were doing, standing on the edge of the unknown always. Not just the world but gameplay wise and mechanically. All modern games want to hold you hand, give you your participation trophy, is eager to ferry you to endgame content, and wants to be so accessible as to turn no one away.
Am I wrong for thinking this?
I feel like guides have been abundant since 2000.
Guides are everywhere since the 90's, the walkthrough scene has always been a really strong one.

I agree that it did really make the world feel alive and special, and when I played the game back in vanilla it really did feel like anything could happen, my imagination sparking with possibilities. This was only because I didn't really understand the game though. After having dedicated thousands of hours, you come to realize that the world isn't as fantastical as you imagined. This is true for all versions of WoW, once thoroughly explored.
