Most customization. Most accurate. If it it's played on a controller you're near guaranteed to get a better experience out of pic related. I hate Valve, but fuck they made the best controller ever.

Inb4 the uninformed are massively triggered

>20 dollars more than the industry standard for controllers
>Only features it has that the WiiU pro didn't for 40-50 was gyro, HD Rumble, half the battery life, and an amiibo scanner
>Gyro is in the DS4 and Steam Controller for 50
>HD Rumble is at the very least in the Steam Controller for 50
>WiiU Pro has a better battery life for 40-50
Only possible reason the price could be jacked up 20 bucks is the fucking amiibo scanner or Kimishima being a massive jew, guess which it is?
And to top it all off
>Paying 70 dollars for a Nintendo controller that doesn't have a Nintendo DPAD (See >>381691502's video for more on why specifically that's so shit.)

The Switch Pro controller is LITERALLY the worst first party controller on the market.

>>381693280
I love the Wii U Pro, but I still don't think it's better than the Switch Pro in terms of form factor and use in modern games.

It's amazing for virtual console, though. It's a SNES controller with extra buttons. It would be sweet if they updated the Switch to support it in the future when it eventually gets older games.

>>381694465
It's not good as a D-Pad. Really good for things like Radial Menus and other miscellaneous in game keys. It's basically the Hotkeypad. That being said Valve should include a swappable d-pad somehow.

Don't you get the same level of customization if you use your DS4 in Steam?

gamecube controller >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everything else
>>
>>381694465
Not great for dpad movement, but you should really have a dpad specific controller on hand even without the Steam Controller, none of the big 3's dpads are good for movement anymore.
But in games where you need to use the dpad for anything else like buttons it works perfectly fine. It really shines in games where you can do something like quick menus or radial menus with it.

Once you're in deep enough to the autism of the Steam Controller 3D analog movement on the pad is actually pretty neat though. I wouldn't recommended early on into getting used to the controller however.
>>
>>381694703
Not even a little bit. I hate the DS4. I'm planning to look into using a WiiU pro as my backup for my Steam Controller that can do dpads and twinsticks for games that require them
>>
>>381694198
Boy I sure would love to play racing games with fucking digital triggers.
>>
>>381694854
its lacking buttons for movern games unfortunatly if they had made a version with two z buttons it would be much nicer

>>
>>381694569

Well they both lack of analog triggers so neither are good for multiplat stuff and racing.
>>
>>381695051
if i'm being honest the pro controller is pretty much that. pro controller is the true successor to the gamecube controller imo, although if they made one that looked like the gamecube controller i'd be suuuper happy.
>>
>>381691509
>Dildo grips
>>
>>381694301
Literally nobody cares
>>
>>381693971
The customization could definitely be better (Less buggy, allow more fine tweaking of variables than just sliders, multiple modeshifts, combination presses, use of the center button) and it sucks that you have to do everything through steam.
It could also use 4 grip buttons instead of 2, the bumpers are a bit stiff to start with, the face button layout is a bit shit and the stick is vestigial.
I do really love those triggers though.

>>381694465
It's not really a D-Pad but it works well enough for 2D platformers if you only bind left/right to it.
>>
>>381694646
Their soul purpose as a button is to be easily used. They fail at that.
>>
>>381695003
Said no one ever
>>
>>381693971
this is horribly incorrect

the right touchpad being used for a camera is fucking horrible. like trying to use a trackpad on a laptop, the buttons on the back are far to easy to accidentally press, the face buttons are awkward to hit, and the thing disconnects way too often
>>
>>381691392
Its great
but fuck
i thought the DPad would be the best
Somehow I end up enjoying the joycon dpad more because the one I press ACTUALLY DOES WHAT I ASKED

Its a great controller, but fuck that dpad man.
Its good for a game with 8 directions/diagonals
but if its a 4 direction game, pressing left, and getting down is always a real possibility.
>>
>>381691502
You have no idea how pissed off I was that I couldn't use that d-pad for Puyo Tetris because of all the diagonal inputs fucking me over. I've since gotten used to using the Joycon """""d-pad""""", but I still wish the Switch Pro Controller didn't suck dick
>>
>>381694854
Its great
but its of its time
and games designed with it use it well
to use it for anything further forward is a waste of time, sadly.
>>
>>381692937
Literally any other controller from this generation. Fucking hell, I'd take the Wii U Pro Controller over the shitty Switch one any day

>The right touchpad being used for a camera is fucking horrible
What a shit opinion. Trackpads for aiming destroys stick. You personal preferences to remain on a fossil controller doesn't change the fact that trackpad aiming literally takes a hot shit on analog sticks.
>Better for small movements
>No turning speed cap
>Better range of movement speed for turning

It's literally nothing like a laptop trackpad
>Sensitive to the point it will detect your finger through an article of clothing
>Haptics allow you to feel where you're moving on the trackpads
>Doesn't have the heat of a laptop directly underneath it, which is what ruins the sensitivity of the trackpad on laptops after extended use at one time
>>
>>381694453
>Such as...?
1. Still not ergonomic, or at least much less ergonomic than all of its competitors. Still has that Sony patented claw grip and finger tip balancening
2. Pointless flashlight on the back
3. Controller rests on shoulder triggers buttons
4. Shoulder triggers are much too sensitive
5. pointless unused and over sized track pad
6. options button crammed in between trackpad and face buttons, terrible location. No other competitor has anything like this issue
7. terrible battery life compared to its competitors
8. dual lower joysticks, still
9. Rubber thumbsticks are just worse than before, weird inset taper, small, rubber wears too soon
10. share needed a button i guess...
11. bar code on back always dog-ears and you can feel this constantly as you play
12. quite possibly the most fragile controller ever made. My work buddy literally broke his controller in half when he accidentally stepped on it
13. charging port is flimsy tends to break easily
14. charging cable is stiffer than a cum stained gym sock

Anything is better than GameCube, holy shit is that a bad controller.
>>
>>381694693
Not for me.
I got the mayflash adapter for it.
Still my favourite general purpose controller. Even over the Xbox One.

Im currently experimenting with the Steam controller since I got that on sale to try out. Kind of awkward atm but I hear it grows on you.
>>
>>381694784
Note Quite, DS4 with steam inferface is close, but the Steam controller is way more flexible.
>>
>>381697507
and I'll also add

15. segmented d-pad
16. face buttons still have 90 degree rotational symmetry when they are never used as directional inputs (same as Xbox1) where a button cluster like gamecube or a squashed diamond like switch pro allows more options for dual button input.

>falls

Steam controller has all of the features of the Switch Pro (Hd Rumble and Gyro) and significantly more than that, except amiibo scanners, for 55. Goes on sale for 35.
I could buy two for the price of one Switch Pro.

The Steam Controller is basically a functioning testament to how jewish Kimishima's Nintendo is.
HD Rumble and Gyro are not fucking expensive. And if amiibo scanners are expensive why the fuck is there one in every controller? It's either retarded or it's greedy. But certainly not well designed.

I tried x360ce but not a single game recognized my controller, that program needs more documentation or something because it seemed hacky as fuck. Steam's big picture solution didn't work either because many games would try and recognize both the original switch controller and the x-input one steam is trying to fake, which fucked it all up further.

I guess I need someone to make me a retard-proof guide.

Steam controller also has no internal battery or integrated charging port. Naturally, it doesn't come with a USB-C cable, either. And it has one analog stick. There are certainly costs cut in other areas. If you're putting this all on Kimishima's Nintendo, then shouldn't the Wii U Pro Controller have had all the Steam Controller's features for $50 under Iwata?
>>
>>381691509

>>
>>381702946
And now they're selling a controller with what that one had, but with the addition of higher-grade bluetooth, accelerometer, gyro, HD rumble, NFC, and USB-C for $10 more than the DS4. The higher price isn't that strange for how much was added to it.

All of this. The only people who defend that piece of trash are life long Sony only consumers. Battery that lasts through 40+ hours of constant use
More comfortable to hold than a dualshock
The superior joystick placement (Left thumb on joystick, right thumb on ABXY by default)
Higher quality buttons than the dualshock
Superior D-pad to the xbone controller
Really, the only drawback is no analog triggers, but I can't think of a single game that has actually used that in recent memory. Basically you won't be able to play Super Mario Sunshine on an emulator with it.

Because the upgrades and extra features add to the power consumption. It's not because they reduced the battery capacity or anything like that. That doesn't have anything to do with the manufacturing cost. It still has an extremely long battery life for a controller.

Higher bluetooth gives it better reaction time and more range. Switch controllers can work from about 37 feet away. To compare, the Steam controller has a range of about 16 feet.

Accelerometer's used in Zelda, at least. Ensuring symmetry between a double joy-con setup and the pro controller is important to avoid problems that the Wii U had with controller compatibility. If you want to criticize Amiibos, feel free to, but that's not something you can blame Kimishima for. And if gyro and HD rumble are standard in a $55 controller, why were they missing from the Wii U pro controller? Where are they in other controllers at that price that don't have other things cut?

The C-stick perfectly fine, and in fact feels tighter to me than the normal joystick. I agree the D-pad feels off on the gamecube though. 2, 4 and 9 are literally the only legitimate complaints. The rest of these are complaints due to preferences for a different controller (1, 5, 6, 8, 10)or just plain something only autists care about (3, 7, 14)

11, 12, and 13 seem like blobhand/retardhand problems
>>
>>381691392
Fucking nintenbro shut up and stop over rating this overpriced shit.

ds4 v2 is better

>>381727069
>having to do backflips for a simple input that comes completely natural on all other brands

No one is saying it's a terrible controller. It's just worse than all the other options out there. Congrats on mastering the claw grip tho.

Is there anyone who's compared this to the Pokken Pad? Which has a better Dpad

All I know is when I was playing BotW and I wanted to switch weapons on the fly, I would have to take my thumb off the stick and stop completely in my tracks to do so, which was really annoying, and I'm not an autist that wants to control the stick with my index finger when I claw grip.

This "asymmetrical is better" meme needs to fucking stop. The Dpad must always be on top of the stick no matter what.
>>
>>381711907
Battery life is shit sadly
>>
>>381730771
How would changing the position of the stick affect your ability to change weapons? You would still have to take your thumb off the stick to press the D-pad button anyway.
>>
>>381728549
Yes and it also works on PC with wiinusoft but no analog triggers.
>>
The Switch Pro Controller is actually a big disappointment. Not only is the d-pad terrible ( >>381691502 ), but the sticks are also shit. When you flick in a direction the stick bounces back the deadzone and inputs the other direction as well.

I agree with this. I haven't found anything I'd want a stick for that the pad didn't do a great job replacing, but this thing is absolute trash for any game with 2D platforming and awkward with menus. The "dpad" is no dpad.
>>
>>381731573
>When you flick in a direction the stick bounces back the deadzone and inputs the other direction as well.
This is honestly the biggest crime to this controller. I can forgive the shitty D-Pad since I can just play platformers with the sticks but the fucking deadzone is just way too small for this shit.
>>
>>381731754
That's kind of hilarious, actually. Along with the D-pad, did they just not test this?

It's easier to claw grip touch the Dpad with my index finger when the Dpad is above the stick.

Thumb always on the left stick and bring out my index finger to use the Dpad whenever. Can't do that if the Dpad is below the stick because I'm not gonna stretch my index over my thumb like a freak.

Why can't people understand this.

Dude. Just put your right thumb on the d-pad, your right index finger on the stick and the rest of your fingers on the face buttons.

Have you ever actually played something like Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto, or Just Cause on a mouse and keyboard? It's like you're controlling a sack of potatoes with tons of inputs that require you to hold other inputs. It feels like shit. The same applies to platformers and especially 2D platformers, it's absolutely terrible.

You want another example, the newer Deus Ex games, they're fine in first person and then you go into third and now you're controlling a clunky sack of bricks which doesn't happen when you're on a controller since you feel like you're at the same speed the entire time.

Yeah, M+K is great for sims, FPS, RTS, flying sims, and possibly fighting games, but I'm not touching any other genre on it with a ten foot pole unless it's exclusive, and even then I'll opt for controller. You don't know how shit Witcher 1 feels to control without a controller, especially after you've played 2 and 3 with one.
>>
>>381734565
What. The. Fuck.
You're right, they should have made 99% of game time worse so 1% of the time you could successfully play like an autistic 3rd world sub human garbage eating piece of filth.
>>
>>381691547
I have read this thing has serious quality assurance issues and that it's not worth the price tag whatsoever. Shame, I wanted one for my PC but opted for a 20 dollar Bone controller.

There's a reason for the right analog stick. The only game where this is required is monster hunter 1 because for some reason they didn't know there was a right analog stick and you could only use the dpad for the camera.

>>381697507
5 is a pretty legitimate complaint. So is 3, sort of. Not a lot of developers put any real emphasis on the trackpad. Granted there isn't much of a point on multiplatform titles but I can't really think of a single game that really impressed me with a neat use of the trackpad. Most just use it for the button functionality. Are there any that use it in a creative way? Such as using the touch screen to wipe dirt off an object? Or something else?

but yeah a lot of those complaints are just nitpicking. 6,8,12,13,14
>>
>>381724914
Garbage hands. Its easier for you to twiddle your thumb when its lowered.
The left analog position on asymmetrical is placed so that your left thumb is stretched, making it harder to move your thumb around a circular motion.

Next your gonna say unified Dpad is good. Have fun playing fightan with that cancer.

People underestimate how good gyro is for aiming.

Like in Zelda you just point your camera in the general direction your enemy is in, aim, and then use gyro to fine tune your shot.

I've been playing Shadow Of Mordor because of the steam sale and I realized it took me forever to line up a headshot with the bow on a controller.

Gyro should be a standard feature for all controllers across every platform in the future
