Why the fuck do people say Starcraft 2 is a dead game?
I just checked all 3 servers and there a roughly 30k players online right now (the games played is a global stat). That would be enough to be about top 15 on Steam and WAY WAY WAY more than any other RTS. I think that's a impressive player count for a 7 year old game.
It's a dumb meme. Really nothing more to it.
dead relative to the other big esports games that overtook it.
SC2 was the big game in 2010-2011 and everybody was playing it. Then casuals realized that you have to git gud in RTS games and left for MOBAs to not feel bad about themselves they started calling the game dead.
Like you said, it's the biggest RTS and it will probably stay so until Blizzard releases its next RTS.
People only think in extremes these days. If there aren't millions of people playing it it's dead.
Probably "Dead" in the relative Esport sense, but there are still tons of people playing it. I myself still play the campaigns once in a while.
But yeah I'd say MOBAs kind of killed Blizzard's hopes of SC2 being a major eSport stable.
