I remember one problem in particular with the exploring. It was that fucking red palace or some shit and I was stuck at 98% for like an hour until I figured out that the staircases have a tiny bit of area around them and you have to go through the same fucking stairs over and over again to uncover it fully.

I don't think the gameplay is terrible, it's more that it's getting boring too fucking fast. A little change would've worked wonders. Like giving you a mana bar that you refill through attacking enemies and then giving you active skills that you use that mana on with a different skill set for each of the facets. The game would've become 10x better because it wouldn't be as boring anymore.

Does Iji count, or is that more pretension than edge?

iirc, they also throw in some logs about how some crazy person is attacking them and they're so scared and they have no choice but to fight.

They shoot at you on the first level. If you don't shoot back they realize you COULD have murdered them all and start a truce. Things still go to shit eventually.

They start hostile but you can avoid it. iirc there are a few parts like that, and a boss that MUST die but, like all bosses (iirc) can be killed by turning his own attacks against him.

I think even the final boss can be killed solely by reflecting attacks back to him and the passive game route is consistently harder than just killing things.

Yep. On the unpatched PS3 Disgaea D2 certain fire spells will cause the screen to lock up, yet the fans on the PS3 will keep going at top speed. If you try to push the power button, the PS3 will just keep beeping, without doing anything. I had to pull the plug out of the back.
