Once the normies move on, the core/hobbyists will still be there and they've been turned off in a big way by th mass-market appeal consoles have taen in recent years. Publishers and console makers are appealing to an audience that may not stick around in such large numbers in the long run at the cost of alienating those that will.

8th gen convinced me I no longer need to care about Playstation or Xbox, the vast majority of what they have is also on PC. So while exclusives won't net huge short-term profits from "normies" and casuals, they keep long-term hobbyists interested. The western industry has been too focused on the short-term, and their business models are just not sustainable and are actively alienating hobbyists and long-term customers.

Well they sure as shit didn't "win" E3 with games I already knew about, a single multiplat and a remake. MS had dick too, but I'll still give them both credit for at least sticking to games and not talking about other bullshit. However, Nintendo announced several new and exclusive games, some of which had a decent amount of gameplay footage, so they had the best showing this year.

Spiderman was also pretty disappointing, the combat looks very stiff and scripted, much like the Batman games. One thing I noticed, the player in the E3 demo never seemed to move around independently while in combat, he would be standing still or would trigger a scripted dodge/attack animation. So correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure I never saw Spiderman actually walking and moving independently during combat, which struck me as odd.

Fine if you think Days gone and GoW look good, but I don't agree. Gameplay looks like the same third-person scripted shit we've had for a decade, if you showed me a brief snippet of the MC in either of those two games or TLOU2 I wouldn't necessarily be able to tell the difference beyond knowing that Kratos is covered in ash. Too much focus on IP and story while gameplay stagnates and panders to the lowest common denominator in an effort to sell as many copies as possible. Spiderman fell victim to the latter bit there as well, combat looks even more scripted than BamHam was, with more QTEs and less direct control.
