>>
>>381662345
It's a fucking stick, anon. You don't even need to be concerned about dead angles because fighting games have 8 directions and that's it.

Just get anything that isn't going to be a total rubbish cheapo shit. It literally doesn't matter
>>
>>381662282
I hate VNs, you dicklet.
>>381662329
No, but I end up facing a lot of people who either complain they lost because they aren't using a stick, or get butthurt because they lost while using a stick.
>>
If they didn't cost so much I wouldn't judge people on them. Replicating the arcade style controller is cool and I see why some would want to play with it. However I don't think it's a good investment of $200. Then again lots of optional devices were made for certain types of games like MMO mice. I guess if you like a certain genre this kind of investment isn't much if you know it'll make it more enjoyable.
>>
I use it for mame and shooters, I don't even play fighting games.
>>
>>381662579
You're a complete fucking moron. What do you play on, a d-pad? Anyone who invests their time into fighters knows d-pads and fighters cause horrible RSI. You are a literal brainlet with no clue.
>>
>>381662698
A controller with an analog stick, like a normal fucking human.
>playing vidya enough and being weak enough to get RSI
Yeah, you're a turbo autist getting butthurt that someone is talking shit on muh fight stick. Hang from an oak tree.
>>
>>381662674
That's why there are cheaper ones if you're just dabbling in the genre or just casual about it. No one would suggest you to buy a TE as a first stick. People that do that are either morons with a lot of money or dedicated fighting game fans.

>>
>>381662924
The cheaper ones are shit and will make you double dip because they either have bad parts or they straight up break.

The best thing a beginner can do is buy a good used stick.
There's many on the market that are barely used because not everybody is ready for the stick life.

That's the thing. I'm not very good. And I still beat the majority of stick users I face. Because they buy them thinking it automatically boosts their ability to play. Hence, sticks being an autistic thing in general.

it's that only poor niggers and spics use pads whereas almost all serious players use an arcade stick

>>
>>381663802
Which is not relevant to the argument. Gripping a fighting stick is much less strenuous. It's clearly beneficial to avoid awkward controller grips and a control method where your thumb does all the work. It's like asking for an arm injury.
>>
>>381663802
Yes, I never said it was superior to pad either, it's just a preference thing. Some things are easier on sticks than pads, it just depends on how/who you play.

I played Chun-Li in SFIV. No way I'd be able to play her efficiently on a pad. However, if you play grapplers like SnakeEyez, then yes pad or stick, it doesn't matter

I bought a used fightstick cheap but ended up replacing almost everything with 90$ worth of parts. Looking back, if I had known what i know now I would have just built one from scratch. now I just have figure out how to craft the housing for the red buttons, maybe carving it out of wood, idk.

Of course they're going to be shit, but they're still good enough to play at a decent level and get used to using a stick. If you want to upgrade just replace the parts with Sanwa/Seimitsu, it will still most likely be cheaper than buying a TE or whatever.

No, if you grew up actually playing in the arcades then it is perfectly acceptable for you to use an arcade stick, because that's what you're used to. But let's face it 95% of /v/ has never set foot in an arcade that wasn't a Dave & Busters/amusement park, or spent any significant amount of time playing fighting games in that environment; a pad would be a way fucking better option for these people and there's nothing wrong with going pad, but Hori can't have people thinking for themselves now can they?
>>
>>381666136
Smash bros is the best for beginners

After that it's Persona 4 Arena/Ultimax by virtue of auto-combos

In my opinion
>>
>>381666258
I want to play a recent game though. I dont have a ps3 for persona 4 and I dont buy nintendo.
>>
>>381666258
the best for beginners is ST, and using an old character, because it will teach you the fundamentals
>>
>>381666374
not that guy but I 100% agree with both his recommendations. got started on smash, got more fundamentals down with P4A and especially P4AU, juggled it with Street Fighter 4 on the side.

Picked up UMvC3 a few weeks back and I'm in full swing, practicing combo chains and learning the more advanced mechanics I never thought I could pull off in the past.

I would honestly stay away from 3D fighters like Soul Calibur and Tekken, I don't find the skills you learn from them translate to 2D fighters.
>>
>>381666136
Just get tekken. It just came out so there are plenty of other new players to play against.

I actually use these a lot for school when writing papers or doing a lot of computer work for long stretches of time. They really do suck (there's no normal looking models without urine lenses, the brand is obnoxious and retarded, and you can't get any fitted for you so wearing is awkward and slightly uncomfortable) but they do work for the purpose of reducing eye strain. Not sure if that's just placebo though.

No human in existence can pick up their first fighting game day 1 and be good at it.
Shit takes time and practice to get good at, if you aren't willing to spend the time to learn the game and find one of the best experiences you can have in gaming then it was a waste of money however.
You can also play some shmups on it instead
