Alright, so let's break it down. This is the most logical and common thought process of a person experiencing the ending of XV for the first time.

You finish a relatively easy final boss battle and deliver the final QTE blows against Ardyn, as some giant blue figures stand around, watching you. You learn they're the past kings, but you're still really not sure why they're there all of a sudden. Whatever. You impale Ardyn. He says to you "So, that's how you would end it", and falls to the floor. At this point, you're under the impression that he's basically dead. It doesn't entirely feel that satisfying, as a matter of fact, it feels sorely anti-climactic. The fight was easy, Ardyn just stumbled around a lot and monologues at you in his soothing voice. You never feel like you took down this imposing, powerful world threat. rather, and quite fittingly, just the Imperial Chancellor of the Nifleheim Army. Kinda lame, but whatever, you accept what happened. Ardyn's corpse disintegrates. You get a nice little scene on the steps where you first started the game. The scene mirrors the first scene with Noctis and his father then Noctis. Noctis walks off to the throne room and leaves his friends in the care of some daemons.

>>381658050
I can believe that. FF barely has 5 good mainline games.

Noctis approaches the throne, starts monologuing about how he cares about everyone, Luna, and his dad. It comes off as forced, very hamfisty, not genuine in any way. As if the audience can't feel for Noctis themselves, and Noctis has to explain out-loud how you're supposed to feel. An apparition of his father appears, you're not entirely sure how...or just what exactly? Noctis sits the throne and summons the kings. They're smaller now and Noctis signals them to come to him. One by one, the kings are lunging at Noctis with his father's apparition just standing there. Flashbacks of Noctis' companions are flashing onto the screen as he is being impaled by the kings. It again feels so hamfisted and melodramatic, especially considering how it wasn't long ago before he said farewell on the steps and it hadn't even been a minute before he monologued to himself about his companions and their adventures together. You also take note of how the in-game models clash heavily with the cg effects. You're not entirely sure what's going on. Then a final King appears--you assume it's his dad because of the sword but aren't entirely sure because, well, shit's just happening. Whatever. You go along with it because the CG looks just cool and flashy enough to convince you that shit is making a lick of sense. Noctis is impaled, his head hangs above the sword in his chest and he's...dead(?) The ring starts flashing and explodes, then Noctis is hovering over some whirlpool of light and he warps into it. The whirlpool leads into an area that looks like the place in the crystal where you met Bahamut. You're trying to piece things together but find yourself unable to do so. Nothings really adding up in your head. Next you're shown Ardyn, who looks completely fine AND ALIVE, he even cordially tips his fedora at Noctis. You're, again, not really sure what's going on, or where you are, or how Ardyn is still alive.

The first conclusion your mind excitedly jumps to is that: this is the final stage in the fight between you and Ardyn and he's going to change into his "ultimate demon form" or whatever. You're filled with joy at the thought of a second go, considering how disappointing the last fight against Ardyn was. "Holy shit, this is it!" you think to yourself, then out of nowhere, your whole party appears beside you. Again, you wonder to yourself what the fuck is going on, but you go along with it because the idea of a final showdown between you and your companions against Ardyn makes complete sense. Your mouth is literally watering at this point at the thought of the final fight and Ardyn's final form--literally everything is suggesting that this is going to happen. Then the scene continues, the party standing beside Noctis disappears (what?), Ardyn's donned his demon face and Luna pops out of nowhere, in the most abrupt "Hey, remember me?" fashion. She wraps herself up against Ardyn's arm, uses her light magic and disappears (WHAT?). Then a button prompt enters your screen. Circle. Tap Circle to deliver the final blow...again. Your mind races back to how you literally just did this minutes ago. Then you think about your probably not going to get one last fight, but you're still holding out hope. You've just been barraged with a series of inexplicable and random events, but you're fucking tired of questioning everything and you're just going along with it at this point. You reluctantly give that goddamn circle a tap and watch as the royal arms are literally piercing their way out of Noctis' body. You don't question it. They all fly out and take form as the Kings again. Then they all lunge at Ardyn, striking him one by one, until Ardyn disintegrates...again. Uhh...Deja Vu? Then the camera swings over to Noctis one last time, before he disintegrates too, along with the ring. Camera fades to black.

What...?

Why....?

How...?

As you're trying to make sense of this Acid Trip of an ending, they roll the conversation that plays out during the very first sequence of the game with the broken down Regalia. That's fine and all. You get it. They're trying to emphasize the tragedy of what just happened by revisiting an innocent, light-hearted memory, but you're just too busy trying to connect pieces together. So busy, that the audio and the impact you're supposed to feel just fades into background of your mind.

~Skipping ahead past the campfire scene because that's the only digestable and well-executed thing about the ending. It's a welcome breath of fresh air in this absolutely schizophrenic conclusion. It puts you at ease for a couple of minutes from the mind rape that just happened. ~

(4/?)
>>
>>381658860
Imo 8 still has the best summon designs and it at least has tons of optional summons.
Monster designs were good, but mostly because they were just current gen models of old school desgins.
Landscapes could've been a lot better, one big green and one big brown area with a few caves isn't really the best thing out there.
The best looking part was the small side area near the river where you fight the bees and the Trex thing and shit

Following the campfire scene, the camera fades to black again. You're pretty sure it's over. The ending was already long as it was, and you're going to need time to digest all that you've witnessed. Soft music begins to play and the black fades away, revealing a dim landscape shot of what appears to be Leide. The sun rises over the walls of Insomnia in the distance with a slowed down, piano version of "Valse di Fantastica" playing in the background. You think to yourself, "Ohh, that's right. The Starscourge has been lifted and there's finally sunlight after 10 years of darkness. Oh shit, they're going to finally show Daemon Hunter Iris and Cid and Cindey and Cor and Talcott and Aranea and Biggs/Wedge and Gentiana and the inhabitants of Lestallum! We'll finally see how a decade of complete darkness and hiding from daemons has affected these people you became acquainted with over the course of the game. We'll get to see how they react for the first time in ten years to the warm kiss of sunlight on their skin. We'll get to see the celebration, the reunion between people and their families and homes. We'll see how they respond to and celebrate the legendary actions of Noctis and his companion. Speaking of reunion, I'm not entirely sure if Ignis, Prompto, and Gladio made it back alive, but how nice would it be to see Gladio reunited with Iris, Prompto courting Cindy, and Ignis courting Aranea? Or maybe the party didn't make it back and we'll see how Iris, Cindy, Aranea and the rest of the cast react to it. I wonder what Gentiana is up to now? Whatever happens, I'm just thankful for some necessary closure!"

Nothing.
They show you absolutely nothing.
Not a damn thing.
No closure.
Tons of loose ends and a crushing sense of disappointment.

The worst part was Gladiolus and Noctis's struggle.

At a certain point in the story, you meet Titan. And you head towards him with Gladiolus. Depending on how you play, your journey to this point was quite long. Going up a hill Noct says "I hope there isn't much longer until we're there, my legs are getting tired." At this point Gladio unloads on Noct. "How long are you going to keep crying? Man up, you're the king" As if he's complained non-stop to this point, even though through the entire journey this was the first thing that Noct said that was even remotely negative.

Then you get into the late game. Insomnia has fallen. Luna and Noct's father have been murdered, country is being invaded, and Noct just found out he has to die for him to save the kingdom.
As they head towards the final confrontation Noct is silent, when Gladio once again unloads on him. "How long are you going to feel sorry for yourself?" he bangs his fist against the wall in anger. "There are other that have lost just as much as you!" he shouts, referencing Ignis who got his eyes scratched up.

Not to mention you can never really associate with Noct's loss because you only saw his father once, and the game straight up tells you he hasn't met Luna in 12 years, since he was a child.

Noct's struggle is hamfisted, and Gladio feels like the only character tehy bothered to make actually interact with Noct, with Ignis and Prompto being silent for most of the game, and Glado isn't the kind of "tough love motivation" you'd thing but rather comes off as genuinely pissed off at Noct for being in a mood he's clearly not in?

It just feels so forced in the most awful cliched way, it feel like fingernails on the chalkboard for most of the game.

I think it's the fastest starting Final Fantasy game that ends up pushing itself in a relaxed, casual position where you're just traveling around with your best buds. The story could use a lot of work, the execution after chapter 8 needs obscene amounts of fixing, and combat can end up being very generic, but it's easily one of the easiest and fastest Final Fantasy games to get into.

Of course that isn't saying it's good or "the best Final Fantasy ever made" but its core strength is throwing you right into the world, a feat that, for just about every other FF game, doesn't allow you to do until several hours into the game, such as being stuck in Midgar for roughly 3-4 hours, or with IX keeping you very railroaded until very late into the first disc.
>>
>>381662613
>Compaining about JRPG tropes that you don't actually have to do
They're not fucking trops, most JRPGs slowly move up monsters, this is the only game where you'll have as many kill dogs quests at level 120 as you will at level 12.

>Complaining about JRPG tropes
No, its not a fucking trope, a JRPG trope is a healthy dose of fetch quests, not ALL quests being fetch quests, fuck off, you're acting as if there aren't 20 preceeding final fantasy titles that had more varied side-quests.

>You can you press triangle like you can on the gondolas

IV is a perfect example of an epic adventure.

For me, even though 9's combat is slow as fuck, the story, characters, the fucking OST and the setting more than make up for it, it was trully the last time FF was magical.

Still have to play the older ones, stopped 6 midway, but it was pretty good also
Didn't bother with 13 sequels because the cast was disgusting, mainly Lightning
