How the fuck is this a casual filter when you can just leave the shrine?

If anything is worthy of being called that is the weapon degradation system. Hell, even people that play games all the time were bitching about it (despite it not being that bad).

The bad kind of casual filter
>too early, pretty much chapter 2.. and a chapter is usually 1-2 dungeons + boss long
>in the first game of the series when you are still understanding the game mechanics
>requires an item(Life Rings) that becomes available right before the dungeon
>Life Rings cost some credits and force you to do a few side-quests

An experienced Nep player knows how to handle turn order and give the right priority to things(like which items to buy), making the fight not hard at all - but a novice will be very easily crushed

This

Casual Filter means an E A R L Y an O B L I G A T O R Y(read: not the last level, not an optional boss, not a side-quest) section of the game where the difficulty suddenly spikes enough to filter out who has been playing the game casually and didn't master the mechanics(at least the ones available for the challenge, of course - not the whole game) yet

What is a casual filter
>early hard level, like if a game has 100 levels, you expect the casual filter to be one of the first 10
>early enemy or boss fight that is considerably harder than the first ones and requires more skill in the first sections of the game(read: the first 10 levels out of 100)
>early hard puzzle or mechanic that requires more thinking/practical skills

What is NOT a casual filter
>any optional content
>a level in the middle of a game that is a huge difficulty spike BUT DOESN'T HAPPEN EARLY
>the last boss
>a common enemy that is hard to deal with but appears considerably later than the first sections of the game
>diffculty spikes in general, they are filters only and only if they are in the early part of the game
>>
>>381663357
No it isn't. Casual filter is just a sudden jump in difficulty that a player wasn't expecting, doesn't matter where it happens, as long as it's not a part of steady difficulty curve..
>>
>>381657778
>Casual filter
IF you mean doing it the slow and intended way. Sure. The easiest approach is to just fling it over with power.
>>
>>381663561
You are a retard

The point of the casual filter is, like the word says, to filter out casuals right at the start of the game and NOT just have a sudden hard section - the word you are looking for is "difficulty spike"
>>
>>381663561
Yes it is. An endboss or a last level or 100%ing a game can't be a casual filter, because an endboss et cetera is supposed to be hard and you expect a sudden jump in difficulty.
>>
>>381663740
Why does it have to be at the start of the game? The word "filter" does not imply any early placement, it just means a place casuals couldn't get past, that could be anywhere.
>>
>>381663228
It's only a DS game.
>>
>>381663816
But likewise, an hard boss in the middle of the game isn't that surprising since you are supposed to be accustomed to the mechanics after the first sections of the game

>>381663859
Again, this is "difficulty spike"
It makes absoutely no sense to call it a casual filter when you have reached the middle or the end of the game already and you ARE SUPPOSED to know how to play the game even if you are a complete casual at this point
>>
>>381662582
Yeah desu I know many people who gave up at this point.

That too, but you can draw things you see in the distance, not to mention walls which the game doesn't keep track of.
> I found it easier to mark the teleporters on an actual piece of paper or if you actually can't mark anything on the map
You can, there's tons of icons you can use to mark things on the map including stairs and teleporters.
>>
>>381669771
The main issues are 2

Life Rings cost an amount of credits that forces you to play some side-quests and it's near to impossible defeating her without wearing at least one of them since you constantly risk a OHKO

If you haven't played previous Nep games you don't know how turn order works because it's never explained in-game; basically you have an hidden delay meter that will make your turn come later if you end your combos or move from your position before attacking/using a skill

In that screenshot I will only get 2 turns for Neptune and for IF before the boss if I don't move and don't finish combos

This. I get to the last piece of land in the entire game, Poni Gauntlet, and there are still trainers with only one fucking Pokemon. Never mind that I'm already over-leveled as fuck by virtue of simply fighting every trainer I come across. They're just EXP capsules, pretty much, more than any other game in the series.

If you only use char you easily have the levels to sweep brock as you'll most likely be charmeleon at that point. If you don't, chances are you caught a caterpie and by the time you're at the first town it will be a butter free and you'll be on ez street with poison/paralyze powder

I've never seen this happen, every single first time playthrough has people having trouble with him because charmander can't handle it so they have to go back and grind.

It doesn't matter how far it is, it's the only remotely non-easy part of the game, if it weren't for that part a casual could steamroll the game.

I would actually go even further and say a casual filter isn't necessarily "hard", rather it's an obstacle of some kind that can't be overcome with casual "tactics" (button mashing, ignoring game mechanics, etc.)

How the fuck is that a casual filter when you can just not fight enemies? There are like 5 enemies in the game you HAVE to fight to progress, everything else can't keep pace or notice you 5 yards away.

How do you even have casual filters for the most casual game ever created?

Last I checked, that has a failstate.

I'm not sure what theoretical peak casual would look like, but I'm pretty sure it'd be some mindnumbing "press button get pleasing but meaningless light and sound" thing. Like, take Guitar Hero, move it to smartphone, remove scoring, make the notes suggestions so nobody feels bad if they miss a note, and always give a rating of "perfect" at the end. Then make each song cost 99 cents for a hundred plays.

A single botw guardian is harder than any boss in the entire series.

BotW's autosave feature isn't much worse, and the bosses in Epic Yarn seem neat from what I've been reading. Guardians are optional. ALttP Ganon is harder than anything in BotW and he's not even THAT hard

If difficulty is derived by numbers than something has gone wrong. Yeah, enemies in BotW tend to one hit you (before you figure out within 5 hours how to exploit elixirs without even trying) but they're stupid and slow, Guardians included.

You can't be serious, everyone beat lttp when they were like, 6 years old, people today, adults, are complaining that Botw is too hard and you can see people dying hundreds of times.

The single fact that you can DIE already makes botw harder than any Zelda game (where dying was non-existant unless you're egoraptor and have cerebral palsy) except maybe Zelda 2, but then again the only hard part in that game is death mountain cause of the crossroads and a bullshit difficulty spike.
