Before this announcement, we could have all assumed most teams are going to be characters that are just really good on the battlefield, and with maybe a character like Frieza who has an instant juggle assist. Now teams are going to be comprised of a mixture of that and Weak/Strong characters based on assists and team composition.

If you follow the story of any fighting game, even staples like Street Fighter, it's clear that some characters are many times more powerful than others but everyone has a fighting chance when used because it's a GAME. It's meant to be fun and competitive; the one who plays better should always win, not the one with the better character.

I can't think of any other fighting games than the DBZ ones where they blatantly fucked this idea over in favor of "gotta be just like muh show!". In Budokai stronger characters have many more default ki bars and in Xenoverse and the like all stats are better on strong characters.

Is this a bad thing? We don't even know their fighting styles yet or how their assists work. While in a 1v1 one match, we can assume a Krillin playing would have a disadvantage against a Goku player, but this is a 3v3 fighter. Solar Flare, Senzu Beans, Destructo Disc assist, designed to be hard to catch when he's actually fighting since he's shorter than most of the cast (I think he's even a bit shorter than Cell Saga Gohan).

Also that entire story went through some development hell. Originally Gero and 19 were supposed to be the main villains, but the editors hated them so new villains had to be made. Thus, they made 16, 17, and 18 to be more interesting, but the editors hated them too. His character is only ass past the first movie where they make him a blithering retard. He certainly had a lot more going for him than the other movie villains in that regard with him being an actual sadistic psychopath rather than just an evil asshole like most of the other villains. Only one that really tops him is Wheelo but then again World's Strongest blows every other movie out of the water in most regards.
