Nah mate, they took UT3's engine, used its really good LOD system and broke up every texture in the game into tiny 1x1 blocks, and let randomized, laggy and inconsistent drop-ins do it for them.

It's open world FPS that doesn't exactly adhere to established Ubisoft formula and one that launched in really poor state. Helluva of a lot better now, apparently.

Not that guy but I think it's pretty cool. Shame the rest of the game looked horrifically bad, but this piece of TECHNOLOGY is cool.

Would be interesting to see it in other open world games if it doesn't come at the cost of everything else like it did in OP's example.

Bevause they're idiots.

However, the gameplay isn't anything special. With alot of these 3rd person story games that Sony has, they've got the potential for good gameplay but hamper it by casualising and streamlining it, as well as making it 80% storytelling 20% actual gameplay.
And yes, walking and talking for ages is gameplay but it isn't something you can replay and actually try to experiment and have fun with.

All of their story games have moments. But they're just few and far between and incredibly dumbed down when you know they have the tech and know-how to do more.

At least IV tried to make it feel real. In V people fall down no matter where you shoot them and don't even react to the shot.

MP3 was definitely the high point and I'll never get why they didn't copy paste the shooting physics into V.

Haven't you people been BTFO enough? Anyway there's even a damn mod that enables better Euphoria in GTAV, so you can drop the "n-nuh uh it wasn't dumbed down" since mods can literally flip a switch and give us back better Euphoria and actual vehicle deformation.

V was far, far closer to playing like Max Payne 3 than GTAIV.
When's the last time you replayed IV? There's a lot more contrived cover shooting galleries, V gives you more freedom of movement and weapon variety. Forces you to play smarter and faster because you die a lot quicker. You regenerate a modicum of health so you can afford to be more offensive. You can fire while moving without having to hold a button to jog instead of walk too.

ah, homefront,
wasn't that by the guys who did Desert Combat (and Battlefield 2 before they left/got laid off). then made "Frontlines: Fuel of War"

Could've had a decent battlefield alternative, heard both FL:FoW, and Homefront(the first one) had a pretty neat multiplayer, though with flaws similar to Battlefield 2 when it came to gunplay (Random Deviation, etc.. I think systems like RO2/RS use are better, even if there's complaints about "freeaim isn't realistic")

it's a shame that there doesn't seem to be a decent "hardcore" (and mod-friendly) alternative to EA/DICE.

the first Homefront game, RO2/RS and RS2, and Angels Fall First, all use Unreal 3, and push it's limits, generally all of these lack terrain destruction or have elements that take-away from the final product.

I would argue that it is pretty special. It's a good blend of stealth, action and acrobatics. Very few games can pull all three off and blend them in every single fight. I guess you could say Arkham has all three, but not really, acrobatics there are very bare bones and action almost doesn't exist.

Playing through those I thought the set pieces were really the best part, since the gameplay wasn't all that much. It's also why I think 3 is the best, nicer set pieces and that's Uncharteds strength. Maybe 2 has better gameplay but the reality is neither are all that good in that sense

Flashbangs aren't rare.

We can manufacture them in large numbers, if we need to, and every special police force in the world has flashbangs.

We also have thermite, which is literally just rust and aluminium, two of the most abundant metals on this planet.

Played on PS4. It is dogshit without a patch. It was reasonably stable after patching. PC apparently runs better still.
It's basically a discount Far Cry 3 but in an urban setting. It does have some neat ideas added to the formula like being able modify weapons on the fly, and creating tools and makeshift guerilla weapons like hack tools to commandeer drones or RC bombs to drive under APCs. Downsides include the weak AI, boring plot, and unlikable characters.

They'd be amazing specops. A team of them could enter a country via anything (extreme example: could be dropped from orbit via capsule as they don't need to breathe, eat, keep warm, worry about the impact, etc), moving and acting by night, cover much greater distance than any human while carrying more equipment, do whatever they need while everyone else is basically blind due to the darkness, and get out (again could literally bury themselves at a given location and wait a day or two for extraction).

It's really fascinating how some cars are specifically designed to deform a certain way. Like warp and bend away from footwells so occupants don't have their legs crushed. I heard once heard a story of a wreck where a volvo's entire front end with engine and trans sheared off BY DESIGN after being slammed. It confused officers who arrived at the scene to see that half the car had rolled 1/4 mile down the road before the engine starved itself of fuel and lost momentum.

Geralt doesn't see the tracks until you use bat vision I suppose
>>
>>381678912
he's mocking the game for not letting you interact with the tracks despite them obviously being there because you didn't use witcher vision™

when people mock the gameplay they aren't joking

I understand where they are coming from though. The individual technical achievements of these "technology" videos are quite impressive, but they come at the cost of significant computer power and as the complexity of the environment grows, so does the difficulty is making the player a part of it.

I'm looking forward to haptics technology so when you step outside in the rain, you feel it in your kino vidya chair. Technology needs to advance beyond mere prettier pixels to get higher immersion. Right now it's just a race to the sexiest shadows possible.

Uncharted, especially 4, is absolutely genius at tricking the player into thinking they're good. That's not at all an insult, the charade is almost never broken so long as you keep moving.

This. I mean it's cool for the first few times but it becomes tedious real fast.

Shit like this would be cool with actual VR.

I don't know how good those cooking games are but it seems like an obvious use of the technology. Any activity that requires your hands can be VR'd.

Yes I love to do mundane shit.
Definitely boring, tedious and unrealistic tasks are what will make VR fun.
