I started using 4chan almost 2 years ago so I may not be a representation of /v/, but it's clear Eva rather be a youtuber making money off of a million promises through patreon than actually work on this game. This is also why I refuse to call him YandereDev since he barely develops shit. He tapped into a fanbase of anime fans especially young teen girls. In fact I found out about this project in 2014 when my friend from New Zealand said she was playing it or whatever and she was 16 at the time. At first I was irritated with how long it seemed to take him to implement seemingly simple features. I myself hope to be a game dev and go to college as a CS major taking a few Game Dev classes a year. After working on my second school project I knew Eva was bullshitting about how long it takes him to do shit. I myself am not very skilled in coding quickly, but I do understand the concepts of it. You can say I'm not quite a prodigy, but more so a hardworker who tries to power through it. Eva claims he has the skill and talks about his knowledge of code and his past projects whenever he can, yet can't implement the simpliest of features. Whether it's simply mechanics using torturing or weapons to this supposed rival character which he makes to seem this game will take 4-5 years at his current pace. Eva of course compensates his fans by using this tone of voice where he reassures them it will come ASAP, when anyone with common sense would know he's bulshitting and has been for the longest. This man had a bunch of filler shit in the early builds and kept adding shit like titan mode and sans mode to please his fans for the time being which took time away from his actual work. I wouldn't be surprised if the email thing isn't as big as he says it is and if he probably just plays games, watch anime and surf the web instead of developing shit. In all honesty if Eva gave a shit about this game it would've for sure came out next year if he was serious with the mechanics.
