Are gaming laptops a meme? I don't care about having constant 120 FPS or anything, I just want to play games conveniently. My current computer is an ancient PoS that drops to 15-20 FPS when trying to emulate old PS2 games.

The rule of thumb is that everything you want will cost twice as much as a laptop. It can be convenient, sure, but willingly paying $1300 for a $650 computer is borderline meme tier. If you actually want to play video games, just build a desktop. Components like graphics cards use so much power that your performance will TANK when unplugged, so essentially all you have is an underpowered PC that you can hardly move. And that's not even mentioning the cooling problems.
t. been using a $1300 gayman laptop for 3 years and regretting nearly every day of it
The main issue with them is finding what you want with the keyboard and screen you want. Repairs can be costly and chargers are expensive if damaged or lost. Heat on the keyboard can be annoying with games running. Most other things are software bloat but that's easily removed most times and isn't much a factor. NVIDIA recently did a thing with mobile graphics that hurts some old games compatibility but that might be changed or fixed. You'll know if a laptop is a good purchase if you travel and have time to setup to game.

My currentMSIcan run most recent releases flawlessly on ultra. Only problem, which my last 2 gaming laptops shared, is that it gets pretty fucking hot.
Pretty sure they become obsolete faster than desktops, but I know jack shit about computers.
Gaming Laptops are generally really bad at their jobs, you're better off just getting a good desktop computer for a quarter of the price.
