Solitaire
>Fallout NV
>Portal 1 and 2
>Crusader Kings 2
>Dwarf Fortress (get a graphics mod)
>DOOM 2016
>Garry's Mod (more fun if you have friends)
These are games I can think of off the top of my head that are unique to PC or best experienced on a desktop computer. Nice mix of genres
I'm currently emulating SNES and Gamecube games on my system, another bonus of a PC is you pretty much have multiple consoles in there
well I recommend it anyways
>>381618916
Oh and Total War if you like military strategy, Civ if you like children's board games
Jagged Alliance 2. Still the greatest squad level tbs game ever made, even close to 20 years later. The fact that it still has an active mod community enhancing 1.13 is amazing and all the proof you need that's it's fans have passion.
>>381618296
What the fuck is that even? I keep seeing banner ads with that gnarly tree man telling me I MUST PLAY THIS GAME IF I OWN A COMPUTER.
>Brood War
>Fallout 2
>Baldur's Gate 2
>System Shock 2
>UFO: Enemy Unknown
>Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness
>DOOM
>Deus Ex
>Diablo 2
>Age of Empires 2
>Quake 3 Arena
>Planescape: Torment
>Grim Fandango
>Civilization 2
>Homeworld
>Thief: The Dark Project
A lot of sequels in there, but I think this is pretty definitive. Everything that's great about PC gaming can be found in this list. Yes, they're all old games, but it's important to play them because literally everything being released today tries to copy the ground they broke in one way or another. Once you've played the originals and know what you like you'll be able to find newer stuff with the same vibe.

Red Dead Redemption

>>381619305
System Shock 2 but not 1?
Quake 3 but not Unreal Tournament?
DOOM but not Doom?
get out
What PC games have really good attention to detail/are complex?
I'm finally going from console to PC and I want to play something where you can do virtually anything.
>>381620179
Probably not. Doom 2016 is a strange suggestion because it's also on consoles, but then again, it's a first-person shooter, so playing it on a console is kind of like eating soup with a fork.
The Portal series is good. The fact that normies know about it doesn't make it bad.
>>381619305
Great taste.
Also yeah this is the definitive list of games to get ya started into PC gaming.
>>381618347
Fpbp, I love u anon
>>381620348
>DOOM but not Doom?
nice meme
>>381620443
There's no Half-Life 1.
The list is literally not definitive.
>>381618296
thanks for letting me know the title of this must play game op
>>381620157
Poor tree bro
>>381620424
>I want to play something where you can do virtually anything.
Then you should probably play a garbage game like ARK, or some other horrible open world in which you can do AAAANYTHING except have fun.
I thought Skyrim finally taught even the dumbest gamers that "you can do anything" is a meme.
Here's some advice: Pick a game that does something well, instead of a game that does everything badly.
>>381620348
>system shock 2
2 is pretty much a straight up improvement over 1 in every single way, so yeah.
>quake 3 but not UT
if you want a proper mp experience yes. UT is it's own thing.
>DOOM
is the name for both the original and the remake, retard.
Space Cadet Pinball

I think the OP was referring to modern PC games that show off the hardware.
>>381619305
I seriously feel you need to add Quake 1 in there. It's criminal how such an influential game has fallen out of view of the "classic PC games" despite being both crazy influential and having aged pretty damn well.
>>381620574
That was my opinion on System Shock until I actually played and finished the first one. The controls are retarded but it was better.
>>381620562
I'm talking like do anything on the level that Nethack or Dwarf Fortress does
G-Guys, my ad shows a different image.
>>381619305

Solid. Slow but it's worth it for Warcraft orcs that don't suck cock

any first person game (aiming with controller is cancer)
any real time or grand strategy game (too much shit to do without having a kb+m)
any traditional roguelike (too many buttons required, would be aids to play without a keyboard)
any game with high-end graphics (consoles are glorified toasters in terms of specs)

They're ads made by an algorithm designed to tempt people into clicking on them out of curiosity.
They link to sites that attempt to get your personal information under false pretenses such as asking you to enter your phone number or email address. The people running these ads then bunch the information into lists and sell it to scammers and shady businesses who then use that information to contact you and try to sell you stuff.
Some of them might also try to put malware onto your computer to steal more vital information.
I've never seen this ad

What games are similar to Nethack/Dwarf Fortress when it comes to complexity and attention to detail?
>>381620427
>The Portal series is good. The fact that normies know about it doesn't make it bad.
No but it's a fairly basic puzzle series which is also available on consoles.

Not really, at least not in this case. After 30 seconds of research it's actually artwork from some literally who browser game called Stormfall Age of War, and the company repurposed it and slapped it as an advert for their mobile game Vikings: War of Clans.
Have no idea what the fuck these games are but from what I know, a lot of third-world companies make a game, and then copy and paste the same assets/code over and over again and call it something else. That's why during the early days of the internet you saw so many browser games that looked EXACTLY the same, and now it's happening to apps.
>>381622719
vikings and stormfall were both clash of clans knockoffs, yeah. vikings is actually pretty popular, 15m downloads or so. It's no clash of lords in terms of competitive popularity but it's getting there.

Rimworld with mods
Original x-com ufo defense and terror from the deep
Star control 2
Dominions 3 (or is it 4 now?)
Europa Universalis 3 and 4
Victoria 2
Aurora (Beware, the UI is garbage to the point of almost being unplayable)
Homeworld 1 and Homeworld Cataclysm (NOT homeworld 2)
The various Wargame: Whatevers
Gladius on the xbox
Planetside 2 (If you don't mind all the classic pitfalls of shitty developers and poor game support)
Megamek (literally battletech boardgame ported to computer where it's 10x better, but you need to play against actual people the AI is ass)
>>381618296
The fuck happened to the great deku tree?
M&B is a must have. The sheer amount of mods alone makes it worth the buy.
