I really like W3 but I never understood people raving about it's open world the way they do. It's designed like every other cookie-cutter ubishit open world game ever, only instead of climbing towers to reveal points of interest on the map, you just look at a bulletin board. I never felt the need to explore it all that much because most of the time all you got out of it was running into some enemies that were always 12 levels above you for some reason, and shit loot.

Big brand names always get better scores than newer IPs in the same genre. Many thought Saints Row was better than GTA but not if you look at review scores.

I think BoTW open world is one of the best examples I've ever seen, until I had cleared like 100 shrines wandering aimlessly always felt rewarding in some way and I meandered off track considerably.

Divine Beasts were definitely a let down and the pre-cursor quests were varying in quality with the Ruto being a joke. All in all I think its a fantastic foundation for newer games.

Honestly, one of the draws of the game is that it will disappoint you at first with wonky controls and combat that just isn't fun, and then it will work you through it until the controls start to make sense and the combat is at least a good distraction, and then it will get better. The fact you can fight Ganon at any time means that the moment you stop finding it interesting, whether that means doing every great beast, every picture, every section of the map, every shrine, or every korok, whether its after 8 hours, 50, or 200, you can just go beat the game the moment you're done with it.

Sort of know that feel. I only made it to the second village before I put it down. The game, like most I've played recently just felt completely devoid of challenge. Gonna pick it back up with master mode and see if I don't stockpile 300 hearts worth of supplies in 5 hours.

Currently playing Horizon and I think the gameplay is pretty solid. What drags it down is the crappy writing and boring as fuck characters. I get the feeling i'm supposed to like Aloy but her constant narration and dialogue kill her. That goes double for the npc's too. I can maybe think of two characters in the game I actually like.
