First of all, anyone with a "main" is a fucking retard who needs a beating. You play what the team needs and you do that by learning to play at least 2 or 3 characters from each section adequately. Having characters you prefer and are better with is fine.

As for mercy, Choosing between her and Ana is situational for me. As has been noted, Ana has far, far more utility and offensive power than mercy. This makes Mercy more situational. I choose mercy when i'm:

>We need unaimed healing - aka we have a genji/pharah and someone else hasn't picked Zenyatta or Lucio already
>We need hardline defense
>Our team is getting fucking chewed up after than I can heal them
>We only have one or two actual good players I need to pocket

Most of the time you are NOT gonna want mercy on KoTH, though situations may vary. Ana has much higher single target healing, but she needs LoS and has no escapes. If flankers are harassing the heal backline hard, going mercy and zipping behind tank-senpai is a legitimate strategy

I have a friend who mains Mercy, and he will get pissed when people don't come to him for healing.

I'll hear him shouting his lungs out at people because they were pushing the payload trying to win the game while he's hanging back waiting for everone to come to him for healing.

The job of a Mercy is like a little fruit fly, you're not supposed to know they are theyre but you're supposed to see the effects of healing to the whole team. She's supposed to be zipping around healing everyone on the team, that's what her shift is for.
