>when something transitions to a commercial product, and that’s what [AM2R] was—there wasn’t a charge, but it was now a commercial product
literally what

Who knows
Maybe he meant AM2R was so good it was considered competition
But it's still retarded. Metroid games are years apart and all very different. No one is "satisfied" by AM2R and thus loses the desire to buy another metroid game, even if they were released within hours of each other. Video games aren't hair cuts. There's always demand.

In other words Shitendo were worried it was better than the bullshit one they got coming out.
If they shut it down then the answer is yes it was better
>it was popular so it was commercial
o-okay

I guess he was trying to phrase that Nintendo considered it a threat to the marketing of Samus Returns?
do we even know which came first at this point?
either way it's not the strongest argument in the book
>inb4 a bunch of corporate apologists standing up for poor little nintendo

Reggie didn't need to justify it anyways.
MEANWHILE an actual commercial Nintendo fan project has been making the rounds for awhile now.
Let me translate:
>It's okay when Nintendo does it!
It had metroid in the title and didn't distinguish itself. It wasn't called Another Metroid 2 "Fan" remake. You scoff at the subtleties but branding matters.
