1) Mario may be more popular, but I think most people can agree that Mario is kiddy, usually unoriginal shit. Mario has a huge record of being the first to do X, but everyone else ends up perfecting X. Most people can agree Zelda games are better than Mario games.
1) 3D Zelda's are usually masterpieces, imo this one was too. Great story as always, some annoying game mechanics this time, but still fun. There were only two problems with it. It SEEMED too short, and empty in that too big and not enough stuff to fill it. But who knows, DLC might fix that.
3) Zelda seemed too short but it actually wasn't. Straight story mode, yes. But all the shrine quests, memory quests, and side quests made it decent length. Plus all the upgrading and koroks. I bought it March 3rd, I would play for 4-12 hours every day and it still took me until like March 28th to finish, and I still have like 700 koroks to find and like 5 outfits to fully upgrade. Usually Zelda only a week to beat, and takes me a month to 100% it.
4) Mario may fuck up. The only difference I see with this one is the hat trick, New York City, and better graphics.
Zelda had new story, new artstyle and graphics, new weapons & items system, new game mechanics, and was fucking huge.

TL;DR
Zelda wins. Mario is doing the same old shit as always, only mario fans and kids will like it. Zelda almost completely recreated itself.

Odyssey will be a 99. BotW is tops in terms of open world design, while SMO will be tops in terms of 3D platformers. I think SMO will be way better in its category than BotW will be, but Open World games are more relevant to today's tastes.

Odyssey will score higher because it will have objectively nothing to complain about in such a niche genre, but BotW's impact will make it GOTY.
