What's the point of a Metal Gear to begin with. "A bridge between infantry and artillery". Wew. More like a glorified tank with a nuke. A nuclear sub is much older tech and can deliver a nuke and be far less exposed than a huge dumb bipedal mech

The scenario writers know for the series a lot about the details of equipment and war but don't have much of a knack for what would actually constitute something useful in combat. Snake's organization in MGS2 is Philantrophy, an "anti Metal Gear organization". Might as well make an anti-armored tank organization

Bipedal walkers would be much worse than vehicles with treads, and a leg failure int h e field would result in a catastrophic fall of a multi-ton machine. Not so with treads

This is true but usually they try to excuse it by saying biped walking tanks are adaptable to any terrain whereas treads are not. Doesn't handwave why having a leg failure and falling down making them useless wasn't a big enough factor to not use them though.
