You don't like the genre.
>>
>>381593979
Stranded deep is pretty good. Although they've taken a few steps backwards recently
>>
>>381593979
Because of the cancerous combination of
>Indie
>Survival
>Crafting
>Open World
>Multiplayer
>Early Access
Lots of perpetual alphas diluting the genre
>>
>>381593979
Minecraft.
>>
>>381593979
It's a shit genre that combines too many genres together and can't even half ass them all equally.
>>
UnReal World (has nothing to do with the Unreal series) is good and has basically all the mechanics of a typical modern indie survival despite the development starting in the early 90s
>>
Survival is boring as fuck. You find an optimal strategy then repeat it forever until you fuck up.
>>
>Food meters that drop so fast your guy needs to eat 38 pounds of meat every hour just to survive
>Sprinting for two seconds puts your guy on the edge of death and he needs no less than half a lake of water to keep going.
>Night time means you have to find a safe spot and afk for a good 5-10 minutes
>if there is a pvp aspect, the game is completely ruined by people constantly raiding you
>probably some retarded crafting system where you need 600 logs to make a fire.

The genre is in a really shit place right now. Less about survival more about meter management.
>>
Because the entire premise of playing for survival is fucking retarded

the good survival games don't do this though
>>
>>381593979
Don't Starve is good

Subnautica is pretty good

A lot of these games (like your pic related) focus too much on the tedium of resource collection
>>
it's a good casual survival game, i play on the easiest since i don't want to deal with a tryhard hardcore death mode.
story taking forever never really concerned be since i bought it for the sandbox.
and good game recommendations like or better than this would be appreciated.

Every single survival game is what this webm shows except its worse because you have a load screen between the npc and your house, fucking retarded. They lose their luster after five minutes of play - though if you are missing chromosomes etc. that bear's AI is probably really amazing and exciting for you.

ARK or RUST are the best for PvP. For RP and PvE Conan Exiles (Still bad PvE)

>>381595876
Subnautica is a top tier survival game, though it becomes less about survival pretty quickly. Optimized like shit though.

>>381597518
>>381597567
I think Don't Starve is one of the greatest survival games ever made. It's tedious, but so satisfying. I haven't tried Shipwrecked yet, I wonder if it is as good.

I dont even visit /a/, and what I said is simply true. Im waiting for a vid or webm, to show good AI. Its the hardest thing to do and its why all survival are shit if youve any experience with games, and especially the genre.

It boils down to learning mechanics and efficiency for ten minutes, then you beat the PvE aspect and can move on to the players.

Not him but Subnautica is very good. However, the story is currently only like 80-ish% done and they'll push out the endgame out somewhere in september so you might want to wait for that.

>>
Haven't played it in a long time but The Forest seemed to have potential. Is it any good these days? I've been thinking about reinstalling and playing with the enemies off to see how it was as a comfy sim
>>
>>381598230
Subnautica is fantastic but I'd wait for full release in a couple months.
>>
>>381598885
Still an unfortunate skillset
>>
>>381595789
My picks are The Forest and Subnautica. Both games are more "cinematic" and focus on exploration than collecting crap.
Empyrion is also decent but it's more focused on crafting. I liked hunting for and exploring the POIs for rare weapons and mats.

They all suffer from being early access though.

Neo Scavenger has pretty deep mechanics and can be fun but on the other hand it's hard as balls unless you really know what you're doing.

Pro tip: NEVER take off the talisman you start out with unless you like being hunted by a nearly unkillable wraith for the rest of the game

>>
>>381593979
My only gripe with TLD is how your guy is constantly knocked down by a shitty wolf, realistically one wolf isn't that strong to topple down a grown ass man, what would have been better is a new struggle where the wolf locks onto your arm or leg, not constantly throwingyou down like some bitch.
>>
>>381599954
That's a good one if you speed hack it. It needed a lore codex to store your unlocked/completed stories and quests instead of the way it's all haphazardly presented.

One good thing about Long Dark is it teaches us that there is a very small, niche number of Canadian leafs that aren't complete faggots. But they live in the northern, isolated wilderness away from said faggotry.
>>
>>381598101
>Optimized like shit though.
thats becuase it uses the unity engine. Have you ever played a unity engine agme that doesnt run like shit?
>>
>>381600004
The average wolf weighs pretty close to 100 pounds. Granted I've never been attacked by one but I would say one running full speed toward a man could definitely knock him down.
>>
>last update absolutely destroyed interior lighting, now once spooky areas glow like the fucking sun
>all people bitch about is the new UI instead
Fuck everything. Long Dark was as close to a game based off The Edge or The Grey and it was good while it lasted.
>>
>>381595689

Aka The Axe Murderer sim.
>>
>>381595935
What game is this?
>>
>>381601310
But it happens all the time, even when it's not running. It'd be okay if it was at full speed but it gets fucking annoying when it happens all the damn time even by wolves who appear right after you load outside next to them. And I've never been attacked by a wolf either so I don't really know how strong they are, almost by a nigger pitbull but I don't think that would count.
>>
>>381601310
>>381600004
The developers have specifically stated that they were not going for realism at all in regards to the wolves. They are a game mechanic, not accurate representations of wildlife.
>>
>>381600936
They're probably having to going to rewrite significant parts of the engine to get those performance gains. Which begs the question that why pick Unity as a engine in the first place if you're just going to rewrite half of it anyway.
>>
>>381601808
Banished, but it's very simplistic.
>>
>>381601813
No fucking shit sherlock pretty sure we all read that disclaimer but what I'm saying is it gets really fucking annoying that a shitty wolf knocks you down on your ass all the time, even in surprise non running attacks.

It's all about realism, which is kinda cool if you're into that shit. Being wounded in any real way is likely death from infection, breaking a leg means death because you can barely move around for weeks.
Your crops gets eaten by mold or bugs, crafting is a bitch, etc.

ARK had the best PvP for a while, some would argue it still does but its too meta right now. it (like all survival games) has such flawed core mechanics and programming that everything is about exploits.

The platform for survival games and the actual need for survival should be more along the lines of horror games. The big problem with them is that they let you do anything, and nothing in the world (aside from all powerful gods which arent fun or scary, entirely because you cant do anything) can really hurt you besides players.

PUBG has scarier PvP in solo, Space Station 13 has better survival than all the survival games in this thread to boot, too.
