Why is Skyrim so popular? With the exception of this Conjuration/Archery/Stealth build I once did the game was just so boring where if it wasn't for the randomly done slo-mo executions the combat was dreadfully boring.

Was it solely because the game was hyped to hell and back?

The Witcher. And I'm a bigger fan of TES than polish lore maymays.

TES is great for openworld spaces and exploration gimmick (and modding ofc), but witcher made their story that much more compelling. That being said, it still pisses me off I can't just go on a random murder rampage. Two different games for different feels. Still gotta do my second playthrough of the witcher, been saving it for a special occasion.

Having started Witcher 3 last week (currently 40 hours in) and having played skyrim modded for years.
Witcher 3 by far for actual story, character development and immersion as well as better graphics,voice acting and combat.
Witcher 3 has a huge amount of content in terms of missions and side missions, and none of them are stupid "kill dem fooking dragur over here m8" fetch quests.
It actually slightly pains me to say this, but the only reason I play skyrim now is because of the mods and the fact theres still a lot of stuff I havent finished in skyrim because its a glitchy buggy piece of shit that forces me to reinstall every few months

The Witcher games are a lot more enjoyable than /v/ makes them sound. Skyrim has fun archery but otherwise you're just roaming around and taking thousands of screenshots, but even the landscape in Witcher 3 look nicer.

you can (trans)form your character yeah, but not most of the game mechanics like the combat. The most you can do is get that dodge mod and enemy AI mod. But all those really do is increase the damage they give.

What? Ultimate Combat and Combat Evolved won't buff enemy stats. They just give them the ability to dodge, block more properly, coordinate with other NPCs, add new spells and power attacks etc. Wildcat affects damage output but nobody recommends Wildcat. If you want injury and poise system get Vigor.

And TK dodge isn't viable without Attack Commitment which turns the game into Dark Souls lite. Combat in Skyrim is crappy sure but mods can remedy it quite a bit.

while i only started playing tw3 yesterday and it's great, i can already tell that it's another case of way too much hype and overrating. it's a good game that does what it does very competently, but it doesn't really do anything new. fuck man hype really kills, i would have checked it out much sooner if people learned to shut up about it.

Skyrim has a better sense of progression, mods, and replayability due to different classes, everything else sucks. Witcher 3 has better character writing and the gwent minigame, everything else sucks. Both are bottom of the barrel dogshit. If you really have to pick one for some reason go Skyrim if you prefer gameplay, go Witcher if you prefer writing.

They are different kind of games. If you like exploration, experimenting with different classes and builds in one playthrough, and basically a sandbox game where you do shit then play skyrim. If you like stories and quests that are interesting and can have different outcomes, and if you want people in the world and the world react to your choices then pick the witcher 3.

Combat is a bit shitty in both of them, but combat shouldn't be the main focus of an rpg
