What are some games that get tutorials right?
Games like Wario Land 4 and the recent Kirby games where signs in the background of the first stage show you what the buttons do.

thanks for this boner, OP.
There's no such thing as, "getting tutorials right." There's only, "getting tutorials horribly wrong," and, "getting tutorials less wrong." Because if you can call it a tutorial then you've already partially admitted defeat.
Pic related is what devs should strive for. It's perfection.

Superstar Saga made the tutorials entertaining, because every mechanic is explained by a different duo of personalities

Secretly, this is an NES remix thread

I can guarantee you've quit at least ten games because they "didn't tell you what to do".
>>381588396
Oh yeah? Name one.
>>381588396
A lot of people like to throw around the word "projecting". But here you are legitimately projecting. Not everyone is as retarded as you.
>"hi what are you?"
>"I'm x, x, and x"
>"ok bye"
while other rpgs may have better combat, no intro can compete with this zesty buttery one minute intro

This, the one thing that really irked me about PiT is how you're stuck with Stuffwell (who manages to be infinitely more irritating than Starlow and Dreambert combined) and how the game is basically "go to area in past, get thing, go to present, learn new move from Toadsworths".
>>381584973
the ones that dont have one. at most the screen should just tell you what the buttons do(if that) and the "tutorial" should be implemented into the game.
Toukiden 2
>Here's how to do these things
>try out your moves on these guys
>fight tutorial boss
>end
All in 5 - 10 minutes

Literally the worst. Even Oblivion did it better.

Nope. I've quit games because I got bored with playing them; but never because the game was too obtuse to figure out. I HAVE quit games because of there being too many fucking tutorials though (M&L Dream Team).

sorry when i see a post so dumb i tend to worry more about figuring out why its so dumb rather than if my spelling is perfect
>>381589352
you obviously dont even understand what i mean by that, the game doesnt tell you about every little thing it just drops you off and lets you deal with it, i would rather have that than a six hour unskippable shitfest

Sure it's good for replayability but terrible for first-time play. It's why people complain about games like CK2 and Darkest Hour.

Fire Emblem: Awakening
>Game starts and progresses as normal
>As each new mechanic is introduced through gameplay, a little bit of text appears in the corner of the screen for a short while with the name of the mechanic and a reference number
>You can go into the guide in your own time and look it up if you want to know about it, or just keep playing
Short and doesn't get in the way of the game unless you want to know about it.

Egoraptors explanation on Megaman was pretty good.
>>381591753
Personally I like it when people can form their own opinions, instead of just choking on another person's chode.
You know what really strikes my nerves is when the tutorial isn't skippable, EVEN in new game+.
>>381586110
Maybe I'm in the minority but I actually enjoyed that game for what it was. Yes the environments were bland and there were no OCs but they got Bowser's personality right, the paper versions of the characters were hilarious. Gameplay was solid and Paper Mario was just charming.

Context matters, halfwit.
Chrono Cross did it pretty well with comic relief bosses that unknowingly gave you gameplay advice through their dialogue.

games that don't have outright tutorials and just give you a well designed intro stage that teaches you the basic mechanics in a safe environment.

Disgaea. It has a 60-hour tutorial that's so good, people think it's actually the game,
I was surprised at how good the tutorial was in Stellaris considering how bad they usually are in those kinds of games
