I don't know if they ever fixed this.
When I played this way back it had issues with really bad frame rates and slow downs.
Turns out, no one in the dev team used multiple monitors.
If you have more than 1 screen and are getting serious performance problems, disable your other screens.

Why does this game so resource intensive? Granted, I'm running something shitty but it should at least show some mercy.

The game was good, but it suffered from one of the worst """"localization"""" jobs in history. They straight up rewrote a lot of the dialogue with "rub a dub dub"-tier bullshit and removed a perfectly harmless bath scene because they have a stick up their ass.
