Yes, but just understand its not optimized very well.

For example, having AA and AO both on at the same time causes problems with draw distance and pop up. Also, unless you have a 1070, don't expect a flat line 60fps at 1080p. The ultra preset also sets AA to 8x MSAA, so scale that down to 2x or 4x depending on your hardware. Just keep AO off, it doesn't too a whole lot and aliasing makes the game look like complete ASS_______

Also, 'Alt+Tab'ing out of the game and going back in registers the game as holding down the Tab button even if you aren't. If you Alt+Tab out, just quickly press Tab again to make it stop that when you get back into the game. If you don't, it can skip cutscenes the moment they begin.

It is malware by definition.
Any software that with intent and purpose removing files off your hardware without your consent or agreement.
He also in some shit with the law and right now being charged again for violating the rules set in place so he can live on the outside, for guess what. Distributing malware. FAR is as easy as it gets as far as installing mods. Small window pops up, click install, wait a few seconds, "finished"

Whenever FAR has an update, when you launch the game, small window pops up,
"FAR has an update, install now?"

The guy that made FAR got in deep shit about a decade ago, ended up getting blacklisted from every programming job. He's technically not even suppose to be using the internet. He could actually go to prison for distributing malware now, because Feds got wind of this shit and he's technically violating every rule that keeps him out of prison currently.

>First and foremost, here is a link to the FAR fix without the malicious code
Its literally the first thing on this webpage, you can get non-malware FAR. Can we stop with the "OMFG ITS MALWARE GOYZ" please? Kaldaien posted the source code, some dude edited out the "malware" shit in it.
>>
>>381594351
Kaldaien then went off the grid, because he distributed malware. Just because there's a source without it doesn't stop the action he took. Don't defend him or his bloatware.

>>381594351
Don't put malware in quotes either, it is malware by the strictest definition of the word. It is a software that gains access to your hardware on a file admin level to delete files without your knowledge or consent as well edit files then pings an external server you have no knowledge or consent to connect to and sends that information to him, yes he has access to your steam directory information. I hope someone stabs you in the asshole with a screwdriver in prison Kaldaien.
>>
>>381594507
What part of that was defending him? All I said was you can get FAR without malware in it.
>bloatware
don't pretend it didn't do ANYTHING good. Are you saying that even without the malware, the fix is still shit? Not being able to scale past 900p is more shit imo
>>
>>381594817

You're a fucking sperg.
>>
>>381594845
borderless gaming does the same fucking thing without bloating a user terms section into it, a custom sound map and achievement window marker, a million watermarks on the software itself. It is bloatware when over 30% of the product is there for show and doesn't do shit that is meaningful or useful to the consumer.
The only thing and I mean only thing that you should give a shit about is that you can edit GI settings with it, otherwise it's entirely bloatware, because the resolution issue is fixed with an application borderless gaming which is next to nonexistent as adware for self promotion.
>>
>>381594817
Point taken, didn't know specifics of what the malware did, only that there was controversy
>>
>>381593771
The thing is my pc is a potato so PC is out of question. Secondly i might only get a Pro (if at all) maybe next year, and im itching to play this game ever since it came out but im hesitant because i dont know if the difference between regular and Pro is big enough that i might regret playing on the vanilla in the first place.
>>
>>381595180
There are downsides to Borderless Windowed though, such as not being able to use DSR/VSR and GPU doesn't get fully dedicated to the application. Borderless gaming is more for ppl who alt tab a fuck ton, such as streamers who only use one monitor. This gives FAR its advantages over BG.
>without bloating a user terms section into it
>a custom sound map and achievement window marker, a million watermarks on the software itself
fucking where? I've used FAR almost the entire time I've had Nier and have never seen anything like that.
>>
>>381595961
ctrl shift backspace to actually open the config menu, everything in the bottom 30% of the window is entirely bloat.
>>
>>381596227
>implying you even need to go into the config menu to begin with.
What exactly do you even have to configure?
You install it
1080p+ in fullscreen works like its supposed to
Nothing else is needed.
>>
>>381591756
>Problems with the Port
>Running at a higher resolution, still at a better frame rate than the PS4 pro

I never understood why people were bitching about the "port". The issue is more of the engine loading when out in the overworld.
>>
>>381596458
See this is why it's bloatware. It needed to do one function and he included dozens of other shit no one uses.
All he needed to do is fix the resolution bug, he didn't need a config menu or any of the context of it, he didn't need to make 30% of it entirely useless either. The only thing good is the GI engine edit. Which didn't need a user terms in it, speaking of he added that when he turned it into malware thinking he was above the law for distributing malware.

If ps4 is your only optiuon I'd say just go for it. You'll still have a great time and then if you get a pro or a decent PC down the line play it again as given the way that the game is put together, there are some parts that really only hit as hard as they are supposed to on your second time around. By then the DLC will probably be on sale and you can pick that up for cheap for extra content too.
>>
>>381596602
I don't mean this is a faggot console war way but PC users have higher expectations. That it runs better than on PS4s isn't the issue, it still runs more poorly than it should on PCs.
>>
>>381596602
play in fullscreen at 1080p it takes the resolution then scales it back to console 900p and stretches the image making it look like blurry crap.

That's the issue and it's been months with no fix from square and they don't give a shit, because a pedo fuck with a penchant for being self righteous against piracy distributed malware that fucked with everyone and pirates still pirated his mod anyways.

You can uninstall it from the special K installer, then delete all files associated with it in your automata folder the easiest way is to uninstall the game on steam, go back to the automata folder there will be remaining pieces as well back ups of prior versions of far updates in that folder (even when you uninstall it, there's left over chunks of garbage format he was to lazy to clean up)

Technically

>The music is good

>Direction is good

>2d sequences out of nowhere

>Played it on a PS4, so not much to wank at in terms of FPS and graphics.

Story

>Awful pacing issues: go here, go there, meet the villain, go back, fetch quests, huge boss out of nowhere, plot twist, villain reappears, even more huge boss, GODSGODSGODS, another villain, ending -no wait, there's more.

>No overarching storyline: it's a collage of vignettes and moral quandaries about life, creation, empathy, the development of consciousness and freedom of will. Things happen, people bleed, you have no idea what happens next.

>No major theme: the meta of having the player act as a mindless soldier in a sensless (and ultimately, useless) battle is a powerful message, but is not explored well and is even too hamfisted at times.

>9s being the only character with some developement -and- going insane in the end are supposed to be connected?

>Nostalgic mood is good, nothing to rant about here.

>Some pretty powerful imagery, completedly unexplored (9s in the machine body during ending A, the whole hacking game, the talking goliaths, Adam disconnecting from the network)

>The machine/android thematic enmity is completely nonsensical: too essential to be questioned, too superficial to be taken at face value

Gameplay

>It's... supposed to be enjoyable?

>3 kinds of attack, musou-tier controls

>No bonus points for flashy swordplay -and- soulslike corpse retrieval both push for conservative, gritty fighting

>Just use the pods already

Granted, it has some interesting intuitions -like how it considers the various chapters as "different gameplays" (with their own credit roll and ending song) instead of pieces of a single story.

Had some great expectations, a mild letdown.

What would prompt me to know if I was pinged or not? Before installing the malware free version, I was prompted for an update once, but that was quite awhile ago. I own the game legally if that matters.

Genuinely interested on the "wrong" parts of the story

Whenever you start the game, special K checks for an update to the mod. If this has happened even if you own the game, get rid of that shit, it's a literal fucking trojan given it can edit and delete files without knowledge and phones Kaldaien's server with your steam directory information. Either use borderless gaming or get the pirated version of the mod (jesus christ we live in an age where a modder went full retard to the point his mod had to be pirated)

It's existentialism. Taro is a weird fuck that also slapped a ton of references in and to really know the dramatic nature of the story you kind of have to understand fully the scope of the extinction of humans from the first game and the games that lead up to NieR itself.

I'm actually glad for this that Taro didn't suck Satan's cock and make a game for mass appeal that he actually did it for fans and his own artistic vision. I can firmly say despite the consensus that automata is better enjoyed if you played the prior games, you miss to many references to much shit and a lot of context on the whole situation to really appreciate the game. It was for fans of the series, not an introduction.

Like a window that tells you to update before you even launch the game. That's not a steam update, there have been done. That's FAR.

Literally this for me, but with the original Nier, which I just beat.
Its a fascinating game and I enjoyed it, but its nowhere near as good as people made it out to be. I don't regret playing it and it'll probably stay with me for a while, but I kinda expected more than I got.

The issue is probably that it went from "critcally panned" to "underrated" to "cult classic", and the truth lies somewhere in the middle

Because you play it as the real protagonist?

>existentialism

I concede that existentialism could be the theme of the story, yes -but if you follow me for a moment, that does not feel like the theme of the -game-.

The plot, as written, is fantastic -but horribly narrated and needlessly convoluted in its transposition as a videogame: you, the player, are not "drawn" into the moral quandaries and the vignettes that happen in Automata -those are just things that happen -around- 2b and 9s (unless "existentialism" is used as a very deep metaphor of the player finding "identity" by performing actions and tasks as dictated by a distant authority figure).

The game even does an awful job of explaining how and why most things happen: why machines started speaking, why some act like cavemen and others like Pascal, how in the world were Adam and Eve born, why are "androids" expected to feel emotions and be virtuous and machines instead are the devil incarnate. Take the "you shall be as gods" part, as an example: it's very powerful imagery. But it's just a a series of action sequences, plus a boss fight that (while inspired) has absolutely no depth or connection whatsoever to the current situation.

Or, as another example, the death of Adam: again, a powerful image -and yet one that I feel the game somehow cheapens by overstressing 2b's attitude of... detatched efficiency.
It/he is a machine, and has to be destroyed. No questions asked.

How is the player supposed to accept the theme of (-very- broadly speaking) meaninglessness and amorality while following a very railroad-y story that heavily labels any variation as a gag ending?
>>
>>381604876
>has absolutely no depth or connection whatsoever to the current situation
maybe you should actually remember what the fuck 9S finds out at the same time as factory machines go apeshit and want to become as gods
maybe you should also understand who are their gods
connect the dots, i believe in you
>>
>>381605564
Wasn't the boss So-Shi, the spheric goliath you have to fight in the darkness?

How has that anything to do with the machines self-destructing?
>>
>>381603036
>/v/, the most toxic place in the entire world
no, only place more toxic than /v/ is /a/
>>
>>381606389
So-Shi / Boku-Shi pair most likely belong to Adam / Eve the same way Ko-Shi / Ro-Shi were physical manifestation of Terminal Alpha/Beta.
Eve emerges from Boku-Shi after 9S slams his flight unit into it so masterless So-Shi was most likely left in the Factory by Eve to murder 2B.
>>
>>381606712
I've been lurking both boards and it's not even a contest, /v/ is the most unpleasant board on 4chan, though I haven't bothered checking out /pol/ or /soc/ so I could be wrong.
>>
>>381606712
You asked for some anime recommendations there and got told to fuck off, didn't you?
That's what they do.
>>
>>381606795

I'm... not quite convinced.

You seem to know your lore, so I can't argue with facts -but those two "most likely" in that theory kinda leave that too vague for my taste.

And even considering it true, I'm still missing how a basically unmanned spheroid mech fough in the dark is a fitting match for a suicidal cult of ex-hive minded machines.
>>
>>381608193
Cult only goes nuclear after N2 finds out that machine gods, humans, are dead.
Both Adam and Eve were created to mimic humans as much as possible.
Finding a husk of a creature that was created to mimic a dead god in a place that worshipped dead gods and decided to become as them is very symbolic.

"Vagueness" is Taro's second name, he will never directly give all answers but he gives more than enough clues.
>>

What is this FAR shit people keep talking about?

From Steam's pinned post, it looks like some third-party released a mod to "fix" something.

Was anything really broken to begin with?
>>
>>381610075
It's fine to take in opinions and if you see a bunch of posts that just say "it's shit, it's boring, it sucks" you can safely ignore them. However you will also see posts that go the extra mile and elaborate why it sucks, but will feed you misinformation.
For example, there's one guy going around telling everyone that you need to play Nier: Automata "like 10 times", he shows up in every other Nier thread.
You repeat the first half of the game once as a different character in different situations (you often split up) with different playstyles and mechanics, and after that you go on to the next half of the game which is entirely new content.
It's safer to look up gameplay videos on youtube and form your own opinion than to ever trust anyone on this shitty board.
>>
the story is above average for a jap game but the gameplay is mediocre and repetitive
>>
>>381609265
no and they won't fix it

>>381610842
read the thread retard
>>
>>381610842
TL;DR: Nier has performance issues because they were lazy with the port, some faggot modder comes along and fixes it, but bundles malicious anti-piracy measures, e.g. it deletes your files without warning if you clicked the "I'm a filthy pirate" button.

He tried to wave it away in the code's comments with:
https://gitlab.com/Kaldaien/SpecialK/blob/0.8.x/src/steam_api.cpp#L3779

>// The feature that deletes files is for the benefit of people who "upgrade" from pirated to
>// legit and swear up and down they are continuing to be detected as a pirate. Don't click that
>// button unless you are a legitimate user who upgraded and has remnant illegal files lingering.
>>
only if you like playing through a painfully average game that crashes a lot because youre thirsty for anime butts
