Dark souls > bloodborne > nioh > demon souls > dark souls 3 > dark souls 2

Bloodborne would be #1 if it was more open at the start; new playthrough are kind of miserable with the small weapon selection at the start. If after beating it once you could start a new character with any weapon it would be a lot better

In all honesty I had the most fun with 2. 2 also had the best boss fights even if they were behind dlc. I've tried going back to 1 and it was fun but everything after orenstein and smough felt like a chore. 3 was good but I felt it tried to take too much from bb and just shove their mechanics into the dark souls formula. I tried to like bloodbourne but i just really didn't like the aesthetic as I'm more a fan of the Knights sword and shield shit than the creepy victorian horror shit. Honestly I didn't pick up demon souls and at this point I'm not to bothered.

Overall i had the best time with 2. 1's world was probably the best. 3 is decent but very different from the first 2.

Nothing to argue about, we all agree. BB and DS are the masterpieces. DeS is a hidden gem, unpolished but innovative. DS2 and DS3 are okay games.

I'm playing Dark Souls 3 for the first time. I just beat the first level, High Tower Lothric or whatever it's called, and holy shit the area was REALLY small. When you first enter the area, you see a huge castle with a lot to explore but my God it was so small.

Are the rest of the areas like this?

I agree, I liked most of the games but 2 is my favorite. I know that it had some glaring game-play issues like soul memory but I guess it must have done something right because despite all its flaws, it's still my favorite.

I don't think DaS2 was THAT bad. I'm 100% sure DaS3 would have received just as much hate if it released after DaS1. Imagine how hard /v/ would have melted as soon as they saw that you don't walk to either the first or second level or that there weren't as many alternate paths to take. Imagine the reaction to the combat going from mostly grounded to anime dual greatswords wombo combo. Imagine the reaction to all the changes going straight from DaS1 to DaS3. It'd be a much more drastic and unwelcome change. DaS2 did tons of bad things but there was an ungodly amount of hype for it here and its unfortunate that it had to be the follow up to a great game.
If the release order went DaS1>DaS3>DaS2, /v/ would still think DaS2 is shit but the reaction wouldn't be as bad. I'm certain it'd go like "This game is still shit but at least it brought back alternate paths. There's like 8 first bosses you can fight and I can also run to certain items that would speed up my build, unlike in DaS3 where I had to play half the game to get that spell/weapon I wanted. These levels and bosses are ass though". Instead we got "Thank God this isn't anything at all like DaS2 and that's all that matters. GOTY!"

Enjoy your inferior action games faggot. Souls should have been about atmosphere and solid level design. It should have been the thinking mans game. Not shitty dodge roll action games with sub 30fps.
